Ernesto Valverde - V1

It's a shame Valverde didn't stop the Paulinho signing. He had the voice to do so but he chose not to. I think this is evidence of weakness in his character. It's a shame a student of Cruyff could allow this to happen.

Before you say he didn't have the authority, Lucho terminated the club's pursuit of David Luiz is 2014. Valverde could have done the same here.
Thats why he was picked and not someone with the balls.

He needs to move to his 4-2-3-1, if he continues to not have any balls & play the 4-3-3. No matter what happens it will not work. Messi doesn't play on the right Jesus Christ!

There is no 4-3-3 really.

Messi more or less plays like a false nine with little defending.

There is no one to defend or hold width on the right and midfield is fucked as likes of Raki plays some strange right defensive mid position to cover.

Either Messi goes to AM and someone else plays RW or Messi has to stay on right and hold position more.

I don't like Messi at AM in 4-2-3-1 as don't think he plays it as a midfielder to help dictate. Plays it more as a second striker and that formation effectively becomes a 4-4-2.

He needs to go back to 4-3-3 and get s midfield he trusts to get him ball.

I am not sure he will ever be RW again tbh, he is older now and that position requires speed. Can't see a comeback for him even though it will be ideal.
I am starting to think that since Neymar is gone we should at least have RW no matter what, if it isn't Messi then someone else whether it is 4231 or same 442 we are playing with RW rather than LW, Messi surely prefer to pass to LW but this damage is less than having no RW while RB is our weakest defensive link

Coutinho and Demebele are required for a 4-2-3-1. This is the best formation, and it can turn into a 4-4-1-1 in defense, with Dembele and Coutinho droppig and forming a 4 midfied. It allows Messi to stay centraly and have a limited defensive role. Dembele and Coutinho both have good workrate and they are young and hungry.

Honestly right now, we are in a 4-3-1-2 with how central Messi is.

We just need to give Valverde an actual squad that can compete. We have holes in our staring squad on each line: RB, LCM and now LW. Semedo could fill in at RB but Vidal starting over him leads me to believe he might not be getting it as far as what we need tactically from him.

Don't blame Valverde yet. This mess is 100% on the board, no question.

Last night was 4231 in possession and 442 out of it. I didn't see any resemblence of 433 in the majority of the game. Last 30 mins was a shapeless mess honestly.

It really bothered me why Messi drifted to the left so much, it cripples his passing angles.

Oh, don't panic guys. It was a "small accident".

More "small accident" incoming...

im willing to give him a fair chance, its only been one game. i am worried though as at this moment he looks like another yes man with a fetish for Vidal.
