20 - Sergi Roberto

If he cares about his own career and has ambition, he takes that offer from Chelsea if they offer him a starting role.

With Paulinho coming in, he's the one getting fucked over the most.

Best for Barca is if he stays, but I predict he'll be gone by next summer anyway if they sign that turd in China and another midfielder or two.

He's done at Barca unless EV has the balls to bench Paulinho's ass for Roberto.

Signing Seri is one thing as his profile is different than Robertos.

But signing Paulinho legit screws everything up for Bob. and I wouldn't blame him if he leaves.

EV didn't ask for Paulinho, and he is a guy who cares for his career first and foremost. More importantly he is an experienced older coach who has earned the job for a decade and half of work.
Valverde might not have the power to force his transfer target on the board, but he won't play inferior players for the sake of pleasing the board when he knows that sacking coaches are the easiest solutions when things go south.
If this is truly board and not Valverde signing I don't think it changes that much for Roberto, and probably it means someone is on his way out (Gomes or Rakitic, or Roberto himself as part of Coutinho deal)

Think he said he hasnt asked for any of the players named and even then it was a bit more vague than that.

Find it hard to believe than none of Coutinho, Dembele or Paulinho have been at least given the go ahead by him.

If he did (in Paulinho specefic case) then he is responsible for getting those players the minutes, but he won't give him playing time just to please the board or warrant the money paid for him

Indeed, but he can hardly say he wanted this player but not that one, as it would prove to the public that the board have its own reasons behind signing them (and in the case of Paulinho, making that deal seem even more dodgy). If he gives that statement he can keep out of fuelling speculations in either direction.

I find it hard to believe that Valverde even followed Paulinho these past years. Dembele and especially Coutinho on the other hand, not so unlikely.

His answer was in relation to all the names linked I think and he said something like 'dont know anything about it'.

Came across more as a vague answer but being used to make out he doesnt want those players.

Unless I missed another quote.

Maybe he doesnt want Pualinho, maybe he does for some strange reason but those quotes dont prove or say anything either way.

Sergi Roberto's entourage apparently saying that Roberto is furious with Paulinho's signing.

You know the Catalan press will say Roberto didn't have patience and was ungrateful if he decides to leave.

We need to get rid of Arda and Rafinha and give Roberto a new contract. Fast.

Double his wages, whatever it takes.

Fuuuuuuuuuck if we lose him...goddammit.

This is even worse than keeping Fabregas to let Thiago go.

We will lose a squad player, even though fan's favorite (and fans rate him higher than of his actual abilities).
Oh, I don't like Paulinho btw.
But, it is not as if it will make too much difference: Roberto or No Roberto, Roberto or Paulinho.

We need to get rid of Arda and Rafinha and give Roberto a new contract. Fast.

Double his wages, whatever it takes.

Even if we sell Arda, Rafinha, Gomes and Denis, we would still have: Coutinho, Iniesta, Rakitic, Paulinho, Busquets (and if Gomes stays) infront of him.
That is a looooot of players infront of him.

If Coutinho is a new Iniesta, then for a RM spot, Roberto is already fighting with Rakitic and Gomes.
And now with Rakitic, Gomes and Paulinho.

Technical stuff doesn't rate him (I don't rate any of our current midfielders also).
For his career, he should go and try to make his name somewhere else.
I don't think that he will have too much success in any other big club, though.
