Seems like yesterday when many were convinced Suarez would implode at every opportunity, either biting someone or getting red carded...Ahh memories

As a Barça supporter, I'm proud that our 2 stars will headline 1 of football's most iconic derbies.

Ney vs. Luis was special. But this 1 is the main event IMO.

He was comically bad yesterday. All I could do was to laugh as I was cheering for Leo and Argentina anyway.

what happened in that play?

That's not what happened. Suarez was pushing Godin away to prevent him from being booked too. See, Dybala had just been sent off and the ref had recently booked Cavani. So he probably would have wanted to book a Uruguay player to make up for Argentina's disadvantage. He was not protecting Messi in the least.

BTW, for football newbies, the Argentina-Uruguay rivalry is not based on hatred. Both sets of players are raised together (the "style" is mutually known as the "River Plate" football style), and then go on to be friends when they go to Europe. They speak with the same accent and their shared football history is literally unparalleled.

"Kind of" like "Liverpool vs. Everton", except imagine that Everton won 6 Champions Leagues and more league titles than Liverpool. So there's a massive amount of respect between both football nations. Literally, this doesn't exist anywhere in the world (IE: Liverpool looks down on Everton, like Barça does with Espanyol, or how England with Scotland).

Bad, horrible, disgusting game for us, but good job Argentina for the win. Uruguay has never been able to win in Argentina for the WC qualifiers.Even though Argentina didnt play that well, they still managed to pull it off. We have no midfield so thats why Suarez was practically alone up top...sigh...next time, maybe:suarez:

Luis Suárez or Ronaldo (Il Fenomeno)

[vine]https://vine.co/v/55d6a9WgjgH[/vine]

2 direct assists, won a penalty (after beating 3 players), and won the corner that lead to the goal.

...Suarez is making a strong case for Greatest Striker in Football History. Even el Fenomeno Ronaldo didn't come close to matching these absolutely insane stats so consistently year after year at the highest level.
