Argentina

Colombia over performed though, to an extent. Argentina were one the favorites to win it. Different circumstances.

I know but just wanted to let you know. I thought it was a bit silly.

Fans in Buenos Aires seemed okay though. They were more grateful than sad.

I'm still buying the away kit after this match, simply the best Argentina away kit ever, not only I'm proud of Leo, but I feel Masch, Rojo, Zabaleta, Enzo were great while Demichelis wasn't the disaster I know he is since I first saw him at Bayern.

Don't forget Romero. He did well too.

Even with a relatively avg team on paper, this team showed heart. If Messi was completely fit and could have had a bit of magic or even if the other forwards convert their chances, they would be standing on History. My only fear is that next WC in 2018, they won't probably have Mascherano etc at their best and I don't see much future great players in attack/mid-field.

We just can't win. No matter who is the coach, who are the players, who's the ref, who's the host...there is always something to screw us over. I just had a long conversation with one of my Argentine fellows and he asked me if I think match-fixing was involved and I simply could not say with certainty no. I mean all these awkward misses, that stonewall foul on Higuain, that weird substitution of Lavezzi at the half time which every man and his dog has been questioning, that terrible shot by Messi at the end which 9 out of 10 times the players just cross the ball. I mean how all these world beaters cannot finish off a simple chance? It's the bloody World Cup final ffs, once in a lifetime chance for many players, and yet all should blow up every chance they get! I have all these questions in my head since last night and I can't find the answers to them. Been waiting 24 years to get here at last just to throw it all away like this is hard to swallow.

All 3 subs Sabella made were specially very bad timed. I mean subbing out a player who is playing good at the half time? Really??! And for a player who has been struggling with form throughout the tournament??! And what was about using all your 3 subs in the 90 minutes when the game is most certainly going into the ET, and after you had played another 120 minutes 3 days ago while your opponent played less and much easier match and had one more day to rest and yet they still have 2 subs left? It was clear many players were struggling with fatigue in the EX and thx to the coach there was no more sub to be made. I am happy and proud of the whole team for making it this far, but thinking of how easily we missed the chance to be crowned champions is really bothering me. I might need a break or some traveling to get over this.

Before World Cup this looked deadliest front line in whole tournament but it was defense who dragged Argentina to the final. If you look at stats Messi gave everything, did everything for these 4 players to go and score but they all either got injured or simply choked in front of a goal.

Chin up! May be we will now see your boy's (or should I say wanda's boy's) "near flawless finishing" on the big stage. :super2:

DiMaria
Aguero
Higuain
Perez
Lavezzi

Why are you lumping Perez with the under-performers? He barely played with the first team coming in to the tournament, and he gave a good account of himself in the mins he played. Much love to Enzo.

Di Maria, Aguero, and Messi injured. Slow and not particularly good on the ball defenders. Good right back, so-so left back. Masch was great, but Biglio and Perez are middle of the road. All in all, they did the best they could. They couldn't press and run a high line because their defense was too vulnerable. They couldn't keep possession because three of their defenders and midfielders are not quite good enough to withstand pressure. Really, with all these restrictions, they did well.

Argentina has played more minutes and had less time to rest and recover. That was a bit unlucky too.

Argentina has much more talent than Germany does. Unlike the Germans they dont all play in the same league or play for the same club like Byern or Barca. Also Unlike teh German football feredation that builds and plans for a clear goal, AFA is a mess!!! Messi and co. would be lucky to get Tata and not someone else. Simeone is not an option.
Argentinos are scattered all over the world. iturbe, Lamela, Icardi, peruzzi etc. all young amazing talent.
