Juan Camilo Zuniga

Calma, calma
How can you tell that it was intentional?

There was no way he could've got the ball, and pretty sure Zuniga knew that. He wasn't even exactly jumping in the ball's direction. Also the fact that he literally swings his right knee into Neymar's back while his left leg is straight and also from the angle of the jump.

Cannot believe people actually think it wasn't intentional. Zuniga was frustrated all second half.

Nobody is denying the foul was intentional, people are saying the injury was not intentional... There's a huge difference between the two...

Not that huge. With a tackle like that, Zuniga risked something more serious happening. I don't believe he thought "heck, I'm getting him out of the wc", but he wanted to hurt him.

Super dangerous "challenges" with the sole intention of hurting the player, like what Zuniga did, deserve to be punished heavily IMO. He should at the very least be banned for the same amount of time as Suarez. Call it overreaction, but I'd argue that he should be banned twice as long. He'll probably get banned for a few international games at most though.

I love how the headline reads: "Juan Zuniga apologises for Neymar injury". He didn't apologise once in that statemt, he said: "I deeply regret the sad injury that Neymar suffered". That's not an apology.

Also, he sure skipped quickly to the part where he removes all accountability from himself: "although I feel that these situations are a normal part of the game, there was no intent to injure, malice nor negligence on my part". Yeah, right.

No intent to injure... Perhaps not in the way where he spesifically aimed for the L3 lombar vertebra and tried to break it, but he's not that dumb that he doesn't understand that driving a knee into the lower back of someone that skinny with such power can cause a terrible injury. He knew, he didn't care and he went for it. He's trying to convince everyone so hard that he's starting to believe it himself.

Just be a man and apologise unconditionally already... Suarez did it.

Yet another non-apology apology. He made it more about himself than about the injury to Neymar. It's like when people say "sorry you were offended" when they hurt someone's feelings, instead of saying "sorry I offended you". Huge pet peeve of mine.

So you want an 8 month ban on an injury that will take 4-6 weeks to heal according to doctors?

Nasty attacks happen all the time in football. Where is high pressure, there are many nerves that result in players losing their head and doing those kind of fouls. No need to make Zuniga the devil though. Just be glad Neymar will be fine and that he didn't share Mihai Nesu's (Utrecht) horrible fate.

It was literally an inch away from being WAY worse.

That wasn't a "nasty foul", it was pure assault. Zuniga's sole intention was to injure Neymar, and it could have been a career ending injury. If Suarez deserves to be banned 4 months for biting someone (which imo he does), Zuniga deserves to be banned for at least 6 months.

Wow. People are verbally attacking Zuniga's family, insulting his little daughter, etc. on facebook and other social media. I know that what Zuniga did was horrible, but his family doesn't deserve this. For example:

You wanna abuse someone, abuse him. He's the cunt who did it. His family have nothing to do with it.

As for Zuniga himself, that piece of shit deserves all the abuse he gets (besides the racism and death threats).

No it wasn't. You're just saying that because it was one of Barca's players. Neymar was just unlucky. De Jong on Alonso was way, way worse. Nobody overreacted like they do with Zuniga now. Why? Because Alonso didn't get injured.

It was. Dude made no attempt to go for the ball, it was miles away. As I said, his sole intention was to injure Neymar, and the injury was literally an inch away from being career ending. It was assault. Brutal assault at that. Going in with the sole intention of causing injury to the fucking spine is assault. End of. And it was way worse than Suarez's bite. He deserves to get banned for longer than Suarez.
