Argentina

King Leo is making it sound as Argentina were totally justified in their invasion of the Islands in '82 causing the loss of nearly 1000 lives. Anyhoo...my original point was not about who's claim is the strongest over the Falklands, it was that I was under the impression that governments were not allowed to use their national football teams to make political points.

and to your point, mixing a little politics with football makes the World Cup much more fiery. Don't you agree? 'Las Malvinas Son Argentinas' Banner added spice to the world cup before kick-off.

Imagine an England-Argentina encounter! Come on Rooney you can make it to the quarter finals!

I support Argentina and their football ( always did ) but if the country is still thinking of those islands, they're just a Banana Republic with nothing to do but export their production of fruits.

I thought they have economic problems, debts, many slums. And shit. Yet Falklands is still their problem.

Why did they vote for Cretina? No real politicians there?

I think it's time to start discussing football again. Caffe Catalonia is the place to debate these issues.

Messi is going to get fouled into oblivion at the World Cup. Hope he's been practising his free-kicks, not very sharp lately.

Yeh he's usually marked like hell just like Maradona was in 82. Every team will have a Gentile (a.k.a Gadafi) to guard Messi and foul him every time he touches the ball.

I dont think Messi will score many goals as some might think. Now what I'd like for Messi to do is to perfect his free-kicks like two seasons ago, This will be his weapon when he gets fouled.

So is everyone fit for Sunday? I wonder if Higuain is still a doubt after missing the friendlies?

Everyone but Palacio.

Pipita is fine. But playing in the reserve team for the second day in a row. Lavezzi plays in his place in a 433 in training. A per rumours, higs is meant to be emulating the Dzeko role in a 4411. But, I'm not convinced. Add to the fact that he missed the warm-up friendlies, I think he'll start on the bench. And I won't be surprised if he's supersub the entire tournament. Too bad for him, he's not messi's amigo. Anyhow, its best this way, as the fab 4 is not pragmatic at this level.

Your bet is looking like a bad one so far. :p

Higuain not starting then Lavezzi-Agüero-Messi will be the attacking line for the first game?

I was wondering why Riquelme never gets called up anymore. I know he is 36 now, but Xavi is almost there too and he would be for Argentina exactly what Xavi is for Spain. Would free up Messi from doing all the playmaking, having to play from deep instead of his natural forward role. Is he too slow and lazy like they say about Ronaldinho?

Very tough road ahead of Argentina. If they finish the group stage as No.1 in group F, they might play Switzerland, or even worse, France. If they finish second in the group, it is almost a guarantee to play France. If they manage to beat France/Switzerland, they could be facing either Portugal, or worse, Germany.
