Bartomeu said if Abi played a minute it would be an automatic renewal. There was no need to lie about that and use it for PR if it wasnt going to be true.

He already said he didn't want to retire and continue playing football, But the board or the coach can't give him promises that he'll get minutes, Unless we win the league again by December.

Abidal has never been a trouble maker when he was fully fit and healthy. I remember some were asking for him to leave after his 1st season due many mistakes at the end of that horrible season causing Rijkaard to bench him at some point.

And I don't think he's gonna demand a safe starting position knowing the club is going for a defender in the summer. If the club really want him to stay, then I'm sure he'll sign any contract he gets. Sporting issues isn't the thing here as much as the club worried about paying much wage for a player who's gonna be 3rd/4th CB choice and 2nd/3rd LB choice if he ever can fill in for LB again.

The issue is a sporting issue, Not bushiness, He wants minutes and no one can guarantee him this.

Wrong. He just wants an answer, if they will renew or not.
Apart from that, he's not wishing for a starting spot on the team. And I don't doubt he could even lower his salary or something like that to continue.

If they worried this much about wasted wages, They wouldn't have renewed his contract last year, Already knowing he needs a liver transplant, And will be sidelined for only god how long, If he actually ever came back to football, And this was done by the same administration or board, I'm surprised you forgot about this so quickly.

If Abidal can carry on playing at the highest level then anything other than renewing his contract would be an absolute disgrace. He's such a great pro to have around the dressing room and a good back up to have. If there are serious doubts about his ability to carry on then its understandable but I think he'd be the first to admit it if he didn't think he could stay on at Barca.

Well, then why most of the board said that Abidal's contract will get renewed once he plays his 1st minute?? Why are they holding back an extension after saying that his health comes first and the club will do anything the player wants?? What are they waiting for??

Now that Abidal came back, and came back strong where he put a better performance in his minutes than any other defender since August and will only improve with the summer tour in terms of fitness and bulking up a bit, they decided to let him go just like that?

He doesn't want to retire and I don't think him asking for a new contract is too much.

I have not jumped on the "Rosell is the root for all evil that has ever happened to this club" bandwagon yet but the issue of Abidal has really been unfortunate and very unlike the recent FCB I have grown accustomed to.

A shame because Abidal is such a great character who despite his illness and advancing age (soon to be 34) could still be valuable. When ever featured this season he actually looked among the best performers. Might say more about our defense this season than anything else but still a good achievement given his situation.

I really hope that the club shorts this issue out without losing too much in the process.

Abidal deserves much better.

Once again Rosell is at it again, destroying our values of Mes que un club. Nobody seriously thinks Abidal wants a starting position. Rosell just wants to save as much money as possible for NeyGOAT and his wages

He should not be given a spot in the squad for humanitarian reasons. If he has the fitness it's fine, but it seems he hasn't.
