Is this the world XI of 2021 or 2011?

The Barcelona hype machine is real. Alves is literally a retired footballer.

Just checked their site and things are actually worse.

FIFPRO and FIFA proudly announce the 23 players who received the most votes for the 2021 FIFA FIFPRO Men?s World 11, the only global player award organized by the players and for the players.

FIFPRO and FIFA asked professional footballers worldwide to vote for the World 11. We requested them to pick the three players who in their opinion where the most outstanding players during the 2020/2021 season in the following lines: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards.

Players actually voted in these nominees.

It actually makes sense. Players vote on name recognition as most of them don't watch much football imo.

In a year where international football is all these awards really are about, it makes sense to include these players, as Spain did quite well.

Not that they actually are the best in the world, but they are looking only at international football here.

I'm not even mad Dani Alves is there in 2022, it's a meme at this point, but what the other 3 be doing there I sure do not know

Among all the really old players in these 27, the only one currently playing well enough to be in this list is Lewandowski.
