In New Zealand we have a domestic rugby completion called the ITM Cup. During this completion teams compete for another trophy called the Ranfurly Shield.
The Ranfurly Shield is based on a challenge system. The trophy holder must defend the shield in home games during the ITM Cup competition and a successful challenger becomes the new holder of the Shield.
My local side managed to win last year, we then lost it in the first home game to Hawkes Bay. Hawkes Bay then lost the shield the week after that in their first home game.
Some teams manage many defences.
It is a great rugby trophy

Can you imagine the premier League or La Liga Fooball having such a shield?
The problem is I can't work out how this trophy would work in Football without making the football matches negative (Park the Bus)
