Benfica and Ajax are tricky.

Great history but not as relevant today because of the money in the top leagues.

Yeah. I mean I'd maybe have Benny there ahead of Arsenal for example because they are consistently both winning their league and making KO stages of CL. While, Ajax have become a CL whipping boy unfortunately.

Obviously Arsenal are a better club team.

Half a decade and PSG are there too. Unfortunately.

I assume we're talking historically and not the current balances of power, so
And I also assume we're talking just Europe because it's hard to compare the "size" of European and SA teams when they haven't directly competed against each other in history

Barca
Real
Bayern
Ajax
Liverpool
Milan
United
Juventus
Inter
Chelsea

Most of the popularity was because of Beckham and CR7's marketability.
Not really. Think it's the opposite where they are least dependent on stars/success for their popularity.

They finished 1st in revenue every season from 97-2004 before Ronaldo was a factor and some years just at the beginning of Beckham's stardom. They were also 1st in 15/16 and 16/17 when they were miles behind Barca and Madrid in terms of star power and success on the pitch.

It was the Munich air disaster and the Busby Babes and Best that made them a global club. Of course having media friendly players like Beckham and Penaldo has helped that along.

Madrid, Barca, Bayern, Juventus, Milan, Liverpool, United, Inter, Ajax, Benfica overall. After 20-30 years... things could be different as money generates success in the long run.

You can switch from 4th to 8th anyway you like.

There are no such things as the biggest and smallest clubs in the world. If there were 10 of the biggest, there should also be 10 of the smallest. So, which are the 10 smallest clubs in the world?

However, there are the most decorated clubs in the world but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best or the “biggest”, it simply means they have a richer record of trophies and/or bigger popularity.

This whole idea of “the biggest clubs in the world” is a catchy invention that appeals to the masses, particularly among Real Madrid fans, who are known for being trophy driven rather than admirers of the beauty or quality of the football their club plays.

Yeah it's penis measuring nonsense. Another good post by yourself.

It's much more geared to United fans. Madrid don't need to call themselves biggest club because they can call themselves the most successful, kings of europe, or whatever.

United didn't have trophies to fall back on but had the biggest fanbase and media coverage at least for a while, so had to use a different metric to make themselves feel #1.
