Yea I said in the Jovic thread I liked this frontline (fantastic for a club the standing of Frankfurt) and wondering why this fella hadn't got more traction (saw of his plays, watched a game, and looked at his rising stats). Most connector for the three front line players though scores goals too. He would be something different but I think worth a look as a back-up to Suarez.

Why are we not considering this guy? More link-up play than Jovic and equally prolific, on top of everything he is French. :abidal:

He turns 25 this summer, can hardly call that a "talent" at this point.

And thats also the reason there is so much more talking about Jovic who is 3,5 years younger.

Haller i think could help our bench. Jovic would too, but with a much bigger upside--more unique athlete.

more gifted than Jovic imo. Scored or assisted in almost every game he played, strong, technical, has end product, killer passing and fantastic hold up play. Easily among the the most complete strikers not at a top club yet. How the fuck a player like him was not picked up by a big team and instead left a promising Frankfurt with CL ambitions for a midtable PL side is beyond me. I guess he earns far more and rumour has it that he has a release clause for CL clubs. Will be expensive though if the fee is already at 50m€.

It's alarming that we've entered a state where some of the best players in the league become accessible to midtable PL clubs without European Football in sight. The gap between us and England has become irreperable.

I guess 25 is simply already too old for the big clubs. If he was 20-22 coming off a season like that the big clubs would be after him for sure.

And yeah it always sucks when players like that leave to midtable clubs, but oh well that's the power of the PL money. But tbh Frankfurt doesn't seem that promising to me, i don't think they could've repeated last seasons run for the CL spots even if Haller had stayed.

In todays very limited market for strikers clubs shouldn't be that picky. There are rare 20-22 yo strikers who are realistically available and worth spending big money on. Younger players have more upside but they could also flop. At 25 players margin of improvement is smaller and you often get what you see. Obviously adaptation to a different club/league could go wrong but a player is still young enough they can sell him and recuperate most money in a year or two in that case. But if he turns out good for the club they can have him at his top level for 4-5 years and possibly more which is enough to justify the investment in him.

People often think that if you get a 20-22 yo player you are set at that position for 8-10 years but even if that player is very good players nowadays usually don't stay at one club so long for different reasons. I think the era of one-club players is ending and we're seeing the last examples of them in Messi and Busquets. And even they might play the last year or two of their careers in another club like Xavi and Iniesta. And we're talking about players who grew up in the club and are emotionally and otherwise deeply connected to Barça but at the same time they were also "lucky" that the club was capable of filling their sporting ambitions and pay them money they wanted/deserved.

99% of younger players don't feel that kind of longterm commitment to their clubs (obviously that doesn't mean they aren't professionals and give their best for the club they are playing for in most cases) so moving on from one club to another is much easier for them.
