Robert Gonçalves Santos

Date of birth:September 28,1996

Place of birth: São Gonçalo, Brazil

Height: 5′ 9″ (1,75 m)

Position: Attacking Midfielder/Center Forward/Winger

Current Club: Fluminense FC

With Rumors and most likely joining Barcelona B on Loan with a rumored buy clause of 7 million I thought I would Start a thread on Robert.

Here's a write up from Sport.

FC Barcelona are a step away from closing the loan signing of Fluminense player Robert, with an option to then buy the forward in the future.

The player, who has been a revelation in Rio de Janeiro recently, will join up with the Barça B side, but will train with the first team and could have the chance to play alongside Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at some points.

The operation is advanced and is expected to be closed in a matter of days.

Robert Goncalves, 19, plays almost as a No.10, although he can also play as a striker. He stands out for his physical strength and his capacity to generate attacks.

He has already been called up once to the full Brazil squad, while he is a regular in the country’s junior sides.

Barça have watched the player on various occasions. Urban Ortega recently went to Brazil to follow him directly and to speak with him and his representatives.

The players is convinced he wants to move to the Catalan club and has given the OK to the operation.

Fulminates are ready to loan the player and all that remains is to finalise the option to but the player, which should be for a fee of around seven million euros.

Barça have moved quickly because Manchester City and Chelsea were also chasing the player. Robert has a lot of quality and will alternate between Barça B and the first team.

As I said, I know nothing about him but from that video, he looks alright as a prospect. A year loan is a sensible decision given the fact they have reportedly been watching him for quite some time.

I think this is just a Barca B signing
That team need all the help they can get specially attacking wise .
Again ,this is like the deals with Sergio Araujo & Luis Alberto . 2 very good players we got for B team on loan
The buy option is just to ensure that if he proves very good we can keep him

Best midfielder around
Not much good except Neymar coming out of Brazil as of late. Hope that will change soon.

This seems like a low risk loan deal for the most part.

If he's good Cool we will pay off the Clause and he's ours if he's not then he will return to Fluminese.

Barca B seriously needed some attacking players and Robert is one the players that will come on loan for the team. I seen some Barca fans wonder if this is another Douglas Deal but going by what I've read and with other clubs like City and Chelsea watching him as well it doesn't seem that way. Wouldn't surprise me if he impressed with Barca B if he comes.

Well to be fair Robert is being Brought in for the B team at least and it's a loan. and it appears we have been following him for a while going by the Globo, and Sport Article with City and Chelsea as well.

Keirrison,Henrique,Douglas on the other hand were Sketchy and both Keirrison and Henrique were Brought in and loaned out to Obscurity until they were Sold.

Douglas appears he might suffer the same fate as the other Two.

And We did have First Options on Gerson and Kenedy who were also from Fluminese, but by the end of the Summer window Gerson joined Roma and Kenedy Joined Chelsea.

Seems like Robert was on our Radar but not really a Priority at that time like Gerson. But with Barcelona B needing more attacking power Seems like We went back to Brazil and Getting Robert at least on Loan for the B Team.

Why doesnt he play for a mediocre Fluminense team?

1-He is 19 years old player , it isn't really a knock on him to be just starting to get promoted to their 1st team
2-He is moving to more mediocre 3rd division team .again people are reading too much in this .
Barca B signing with just an option to buy if proves to be good
Every body wins in this loan .Barca get a player for peanuts for reserve team . player will have a chance to move to Barca and prove his talent or at least show himself in Europe for other teams .same for Fluminense

Fair enough, I just find it odd that we sign someone who isnt good enough to even be a bench player for a mediocre Fluminense. Many players at that age have been some of the best players in Brazil.

Pretty much agreed with Khaled.

Deal is low risk and Barca B need some players in January and this is a loan deal so if he Impresses we will most likely make it Permanent if not he Shall return to Fluminese.

Like I said above it's no way comparable to the Keirrison,Henrique,Douglas deals as those guys were brought in for the First team out of some Shady Deals and Two out of the three ended up being loaned out to Obscurity until they were sold, Douglas will most likely suffer the same Fate.
