Agreed. And switching to back 4. That's the tactical adjustment. Now an average team with decent wingers runs through them. Playing back 3 just to accomodate Maguire is plain stupid. Yorro and De Ligt with a decent CDM in front is a decent defense.
I rate Yoro, I think de Ligt is poor (but still better than their midfielders, goalkeepers and strikers, and Maguire and Shaw). But yeah, playing 433 with a holding midfielder would help a bit. But ultimately changing formation will put more square pegs in square holes, but it isn't gonna transform their team. Their ultimate problem is clueless owners, coaching team, and mediocre players (95 percent of them). Formation change won't solve that. They played 433 or 4231 under ETH and were awful too.

But yeah, I agree, they're in a bad way and the best thing Amorim can do is switch to four at the back. Honestly, he is like a stubborn child, persisting with three at the back. I like three at the back but he doesn't have the adequate personnel to successfully implement it.

I think I made this post the other day, but not taking into account how important subs, conditioning, and squads are, this is the best 11 for them to start most games imo. Not saying I rate this team as I don't, but it's the best they can muster:

Onana (he's still better than Bayindir despite being terrible)
Dalot (don't rate him, think he's terrible, but who else do they have?) Yoro De Ligt Shaw (Dorgu is horrendous)
Mainoo Casemiro (best options of a bad bunch, Ugarte is a dreadful footballer and Fernandes not a CM)
Amad/Mbeumo Fernandes Cunha
Sesko (I actually think Zirkzee might be better, and I don't even rate Zirkzee, but they have to play Sesko or give him a chance having paid a lot for him)

Yup, that's the only way to go. Still a GK and CDM are an absolute must for them.

See I think it's partly that, but also they need a cohesive system and good management to maximise the player quality. I think they've relied on individual brilliance and moments for far too long.

They need a good tactical framework and fitting players into that system.

Bro this can only happen when they buy 4-5 wc players. Think Cunha, Sesko and Mbeumo is a good attacking trio. Need to strenghten their midfield so they can finally control the midfield.
