Cristiano retires and they get a proper coach then they might become a pretty serious NT, a lot of talent in many positions

I hate Ronaldo and Martinez as much as anyone, but Think people are going a bit over the top about how good their squad is. They probably rate anyone with a hyped up name as top class.

They have a few world-class players - Mendes, Vitinha, J Neves

But guys like Fernandes, Jota, Felix, Leao, Ramos, Neto, Goncalves, R Neves, Conceicao, Semedo, Palhinha (very limited player), Trincao, Bernardo, Dias, Dalot, Diogo Costa, Ronaldo, are either finished, merely 'good' but overrated in the first place, or rubbish. It feels like people just rate them because they're well-known names.

This feels a bit like Belgium again where everyone repeated so often about how many great players they had that it became a parody - but who were their TRUE difference makers? Hazard, KDB, Kompany and Courtois. That's about it. Back then people used Lukaku as 'golden generation' player and we can all see he was never that good in hindsight.

I said the same about Belgium 10 years ago, was laughed at, and then was proved right when they won fuck all and most of the time got nowhere close.

Likewise this Portugal team has a lot of 'quite good' players, but they're being hyped beyond their ability imo. Sure they can still contribute at a World Cup or international tournament, but who are the real players who can win you a World Cup Final? Vitinha and Neves in midfield, Mendes probably the best LB in the world right now.

It's just so funny how people slaughter guys like Jota and Neto when they play for Liverpool and Chelsea, saying they aren't good enough. But put them in the Portugal squad and all of a sudden they're great players. No.

They have a lot of 'good' players but very few real world-class difference makers. Mostly just the midfield.

I mean when you're trying to make a case for how good a squad is, and that case includes the overrated Fernandes and past it Bernardo (both of who are starters, along with Ronaldo) you know the argument is on a shaky peg.

I expect them to flop again, with or without Ronaldo.

Agree, playing both Ronaldo and Fernandes will be detrimental and they will lose the midfield battle.

Bernardo too.

Not saying they don't have 'good' players. But they have plenty of overrated and mediocre players too. Like Dalot, Fernandes (fairly good but very flawed and extremely overrated), past-it Bernardo Silva, Semedo, Palhinha, Trincao etc. Does anyone rate these guys on the highest level? Then their better players like Neto, Leao, Goncalves, Costa, Ramos - I don't trust them to win anything. I think Dias has regressed in recent years and is a bomb scare too, he was awful this season for Man City. Their CBs are unimpressive to me as I don't rate A Silva or this Inacio fella either.

I think people are talking up their squad so they can exaggerate like they're a squad full of superstars without Ronaldo, to make Ronaldo look worse. Or the inverse - Ronaldo fanboys coping, telling themselves they're amazing players because deep down they know he's finished and they're secretly hoping they're amazing enough to carry him to the trophy.

Either way, their squad really isn't as good as is being claimed. A lot of it is hype and 'FIFA/Football Manager' type overrating of average or simply 'good' players.

To be fair, it isn't like most other nations are brimming with loads of world-class players either. A lot of players - of every nationality - are hyped up as great players these days because they're big names off the park and have great PR. Most of them are good at best or rubbish at worst. It's an average time for player quality, really.

Look at the cost of Wirtz. He looks nowhere near that special to me. Imagine what Zidane or Rivaldo would cost now.

Not really. I thought this long before tonight.

Tonight is a meaningless friendly (as you said before nobody will remember it after a week).

You seem like just the type of clown to rate loads of young players because they dance on Tik Tok though. You're very involved in the social, celebrity aspect of football. Your obsession with the videos of that Speed loser (who cannot kick a ball straight) is laughable. Me on the other hand remembers when players were better than they are now (and it's not nostalgia).

You never get anything right anyway so not sure why I am acknowledging you. Tell me again how Inzaghi is the second coming of Helenio Herrera. You were only 7 goals out in your CL Final prediction. Maybe next time it will be 5 or 6

The Tears >>>>>>> The Trophy

Clearly living rent free in their heads as the obsessive manlets were busy mentioning me countless times instead of the actual game.

Hahahaha. Love it.

Been thinking more about what I said above.

It's true some of their players are 'good not great', but then that is true of most squads in the world. There's really no France 1998 or Spain 2010 level squads about.

They do have a good amount of players who can make a contribution. And then they obviously have the two midfielders and Mendes, who are their current world-class footballers.

However, any NT led by Roberto Martinez and 'starring' all of Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva and Cristiano Ronaldo is doomed to fail in the real tournaments, I think. It's been proved before.
