Because Ney could tell them he'll just stay at PSG if don't accept a season at Barca. 100M is nothing to SA.

And then PSG keep him in Paris and make it uncomfortable for him, water board him, pay some ultras to boo and hassle his house like Messi.

Sure it would cost them, but there an oil state with pride, so they can afford to keep them unlike Barca under Tebass.

Sique Rodriguez (SER journalist): "I feel like Xavi feels alone as a manager at Barça now. He had Jordi Cruyff, who he trusted, and he had Mateu Alemany, who understood him well. They both left or were pushed to leave. His relationship with Deco is respectful, but not intimate."

Agreed. Gary Neville only failed at Valencia because they didn't hire Phil as his assistant.

Had they also signed Luke Chadwick and Nicky Butt as SD and Assistant SD then they would have nailed the treble.

That's a great thing if true.

Poorly run clubs let their managers handpick their signings. You need a strong sporting management structure with the SD leading it to make clever investments.

Managers are not scouts nor do they have time for it. I suspect that Xavi is probably whining because Deco shows a bit more resistance towards his ideas if this report is true.

Hopefully Deco turns out to be more like Txiki and less like Abidal or Robert though. A bad signing will happen here and there and does to all clubs, but if it's way more good than bad then it's obviously a success.

We don't have any evidence towards that. What were DEco's credentials before becoming our SD?
He has a damn player agent, a job totally different.

This is amateur level of running a football club

For all his obsession with Xavi, Victor Font was light years ahead of Laporta in the ABC any football club needs

What were Txiki credentials before though?

I'm old enough to remember his stint here, and he was questioned alot. Won the league then followed it up with a summer of Eidur Gudjonhsen.

Another summer of freebies Exquerro and Van Bommel.

Sure, and Txiki was working as a commentator for TV3 in Catalunya.

Hence why I said hopefully he turns out to be good or similar. There's quite a few SDs around Europe with little scouting experience themselves. Guys like Marotta who went straight into a role as manager, executive and then SD. Zorc at BVB who retired and became a SD almost immediately, Berta at Atletico who was a freaking banker lol.

Even Michael Edwards who was at Liverpool hardly had experience in scouting. He was more into analytics later on after starting as a video analyst for upcoming opponents and then working on methodology.

Victor Font was a clown who wanted to give Xavi full authority and make him a manager and de-faco Sporting Director of the club with Cruyff as his right hand man.

Which Laporta eventually did by making Xavi not only a coach but also 'shadow sD' with the well-known terrible results for our squad planning and transfers

Victor Font has knowledge and expertise on how to set up a business with a proper organizational structure, something that Laporta can't or won't do. No matter how you try to downplay that, that's the truth
His obsession with Xavi will be over by now anyway, since Xavi backstabbed him during presidential elections.

If Laporta fucks up the next coach appointment after Xavi, he will lose next elections big time
