That is why people expect so much from him and are so critical. Me first. I expect him to play 90% of games on this level. He must step in. always.

So, he has skills to be a top player but he has shown during his 4 years here that he is insanely inconsistent and that doubts about whether he will ever be able to put a few good matches in a row, are quite reasonable.

And then, if people would trade him for weaker but more consistent players, or for something like Verratti-Coutinho combo, that doesn't make sense?

Instead of a guy who plays one match for 10/10 and then two matches for 3/10, I would rather have a guy who plays for 8/10 every week.
Long term you'll get more from that kind of a player.

People seem to forget the fact that Neymar has played the majority of his career under Enrique. A coach who has shown that he is not tactically astute and one who has destroyed the squad by buying a ton of unnecessary players. A coach who refused to sign a right back in the summer even when he knew that the team needed one.

Individual consistency and team performance are not mutually exclusive. Hazards performance for Chelsea last season is a prime example of how a broken team can affect the best individuals within the team.

For the most part, Neymar has had to play in a broken system. This Barcelona side does not even have a midfield! There is no clear passing network or structure in place. Everything that happens on the field is merely spontaneous and as a result of individual brilliance.
The most crucial years of Neymar’s Barcelona career has been spent playing under clueless management. Don’t let the treble fool you, we only won that because we have Messi to save us. But sure, let’s blame Neymar for being inconsistent even though he has not had the support he should be getting from management.

Did you ever wonder why Messi was always criticised in the early parts of his Argentina career? People always said that Messi does not play the same way for Argentina as he does for Barcelona. This is because he always played in a broken team. It was not his fault.

The opposite is now true for Neymar. Brazil seems to be a more cohesive team therefore Neymar is more consistent for Brazil. Barcelona, like Argentina, has become a broken team.

Your ever repeated notion just brings two questions:
1. What is a weaker but more consistent player? Because for me (specially in comparison with a Neymar caliber) it means mediocrity. You have said not too long ago that Pedro would be better again in that post. I did like Pedro by the way, but comparing him to Neymar is like comparing techno to Mozart.
Why do you permanently have the urge to adjust the team for "official" mediocrity???

2. The MSN scored more goals this season than 85% of other Spanish teams altogether and there is a reason behind that. Are you sure that dismantling a rare and definitely historical trio like that is the solution to the problems you see? Scoring 112 goals so far doesn't tell you that the problem is NOT with the MSN but somewhere behind them???

@TNF, I am not shitting on the entire team to prop up Neymar. I am blaming MANAGEMENT for his inconsistent performances. I have no issue's with Neymar's teammates. I do however feel that Enrique needs to take most of the blame for Neymar's lack of progression at Barcelona. There is nothing cringeworthy about that. If you do not think that Enrique is at fault then you are severely underestimating the role that a manager has in a players development.

And about Neymars comment regarding him having his best season, I'm assuming that neither of us are professional footballers so how would we even know what he is talking about. Maybe he is just feeling good about himself and that's why he made that comment. There is more to take into consideration than what we only see on TV.

Yes you are, by painting them as a broken team dragging Neymar down with them. Neymar was regularly putting up mediocre performances WAY before the collective plummeted. Whether you then blame management or not for "breaking" the team is irrelevant. Comparing this barca to last year's chelsea is downright insulting whether you see it or not. For Neymar's teammates. You know, Messi, Busquets, Piqué, those half-decent players.

Neymar has had a good season had some unbelievable games and some poorer ones but more very good ones than anyone bar Messi.

Need to find a system and manager that allows the front three to focus on the final third in big games as if Ney or Messi dont drop deep to create it looks like no one will.
