I miss the days of the first XI, or a team that picks itself. In an ideal world, a football side would have a first XI and the subs would be academy players.
The greatest example of this in modern times for me IMO was the Arsenal side of 03/04, but I also loved the constancy that ran through the Spurs side of last season. Compare this against Chelsea and their 38 players out on loan.
To some extent Barca operate a similar system, having MSN upfront, and bringing in Sandro, Rafinha etc to rotate. I just hate that players are now purely bought as investments for the future, or worse to stop other teams from having them.
