I'm pretty sure if those wages are true, Puig makes pretty close to what Pedri makes after his renewal and more than the likes of Araujo even after his.

Fucking christ. A guy that is like 4th in the pecking order in the Midfield makes more or close to proven starters.

Pedri

Gavi
Nico
Sanz
Puig

7th. No other club would do this.
With Torre and Kessie he'll be even lower.

Not sure if that salary is true but it was Laporta that gave Puig the contract.

While smooching on the golf course thinking he is the next big thing.

Sort of. He triggered the extension clause for another year, a few weeks after swooning in as President.

Not sort of.. they gave him the contract.

The contract already existed.

Laporta that gave Puig the contract

They gave him the extension. He would still be on the existing deal even if Laporta didn't renew. There is no suggestion that the extension increased the wage which was agreed under Nobita.

Of course, Laporta could have tried to negotiate a reduced deal. But as you say, we have no idea if that salary is true. It certainy doesn't fit the narrative of the salary cap issues at the time.

Irrelevant... they dont have to trigger the extension.

They decided to trigger it and give him the contract.

Contract ends when they dont trigger it.. so they gave him that extension.

True or not, considering his importance for the team even 1M/year would be way too much.

Club is paying millions for nothing with these bums.

Irrelevant.

The salary of that tweet would be the same if not extended. An extension is not a negotiation.

Just that Puig would be free this Summer and our Salary Cap would increase.

They extended him on higher salary for the two years as it was a two year option.

Can absolutely negotiate on the extension. They did it with other players.

The extension was made in Laporta's early days, when he still was convinced that Puig is a good player. The hope was probably for Riqui to grab a spot or at worst get good offers to sell him.

Now in reality, no clubs want him and those who do are deemed too bad for Riqui himself. So he'll stay until he accepts Pique's offer of him becoming the leader of FC Andorra.

OK, and Lenglet makes double what Araujo makes then, is that any better?

Pedri is a lot younger than Puig, it makes sense that he would earn just a bit more than his elder after renewing once. If he continues to play regularly, his next contract will be a lot larger.
Of course, the entire wage structure seems to be pretty fucked up, maybe because the previous board over payed players on good form too early.
