Rabiot's coming on a free and it is still questionable if he will be a central player to Barca or more of a squad player.

De Ligt on a the other hand would, would cost a fortune and would be the central player we would build our defense around.

Much more comparable to to Neymar transfer and how we bought him in to be the future attacking superstar of Barcelona. That ended in disaster.

I think it's too early to make anything out of these reports anyway. A couple of weeks ago the Barcelona press were saying de Jong's demands were too high with his agent wanting a big commission, and now suddenly they're accepting their terms.

Why?

Besides Raiola is not de Ligt's agent. He was hired previously to help him and his agent with the market and how much money they possibly could ask for in a potential transfer. He might not even be on their payroll right now for all we know.

Too many ifs and buts when it's all quiet from him and in the Dutch press when he already said he's put all offers on hold until after the season ends.

Raiola has long history, too much power and too much connections -with other clubs and the media- to make such comparison.
And at this point to say he isn't his agent isn't accurate, his current agent has only 1 other client who plays in 2nd division. I doubt he will let Raiola go and keep his agent when he signs for a big club.

To be fair, Rabiot and his mom have always been hard to deal with when they are talking about the contract.

However, since the time they agreed to their contract at PSG, they didn't come back in office to get a new and improved contract.

If anything, i would say, she even did bad business since Rabiot was clearly underpaid the past 5 years. Something like 3-4 M a year or less.

If they had renew before, they would have got prolly more money that they got with the signing on fee from Barca.

Neymar agents or Raiola will engineer moves or rumors to increase the salary of their clients after 1 year or 2, though.

I did not see the whole carreer of players like Maldini, the Brasilian Ronaldo or Cruijff. So they are not part of my statement.
