But it's true. We were very close, a controlling press resistant midfielder would probably get us out of trouble on those famous European nights. Either that or a WC GK.
You had Busquets who is famous for being exceptionally press resistant and he was one of Barca's biggest liabilities in big European games.

Messi and Suarez didn't press or track back. You can only accomodate one guy who doesn't press in modern Football. Messi had the output to justify it. Suarez who went 6 years without an away goal in the CL had zero justification to not press. It's baffling that Barca kept playing him in big CL games as a guaranteed starter when he didn't press or score at all. Barca Forum tries to avoid discussing this giant elephant in the room for obvious reasons.

He retired with more money in his bank account than most goat midfielders.

That's literally what really counts.
Tbf, you aren't wrong but we're discussing their Footballing qualities here.

The reason I bumped this thread was to remind people of how incredibly gifted this lil guy was.

Probably the most Barca coded midfielder to never play for Barca.

Would have loved to see him in the Liga or Calcio.

We wanted him once but he choose the money

We were too slow moving for Verratti.

At that point we were too up ourselves on the Barca DNA coming through LaMasia notion that we would never go for an Italian boy in second division Pisa, or whoever the fook it was, being able to step into our midfield.

Instead we waited until these guys proved themselves and got too expensive.

If we got him in summer 2017, we would have won the CL consecutively from 2018 - 2021
Could be. But his injury records are always problem.
He did, but in 2012 we wouldn't have gone for him from Serie A with Iniesta and Xavi in their prime still.

We didn't even go for Thiago who was already here.
The standard was so ridiculous back then when Thiago couldn't even find a spot.
