Well, none of these two teams ended up as the champions of their respective leagues. Inter finished third in the eastern league and Vancouver finished second in the western. That's why I was wondering what kind of a championship is this. It seems in the end the top teams from both leagues play each other to decide who is the final champion.
There is 2 parts of MLS season, or top leagues in usa in general:
First is regular season: this is the league phase. Teams play certain amount of games, with half of them home and the other half is away.
Second is the playoffs, it differs from one league to another, but it is essentially teams are playing a cup of 16 teams. They are separated into 2 conferences (Eaat and West mostly) of 8 teams.
The 8 teams are ranked 1 to 8 based on their regular season.
No 1 seeded team plays 8th, 4th plays 5th and winners play each other in Conference Semifinals.
2nd vs 7th and 3rd vs 6th and winners face each others in Conference Semifinals.
The two winners from semifinals plays each other in Conference Finals.
East champions plays West champions in THE FINALS. That was yesterday's game, this is the big trophy.
