You guys remember in like 2010 how there were already GOAT shouts around Messi? Guy was aroubd 23 back then and already considered GOAT by likes of Wenger.

He just kept going and built on that. Always making his talking on the pitch only to finally cement his place as the true GOAT if there were any sort of doubts.

His level in 10/11 and 14/15 was the highest peak achieved in football history over the course of a season. Was absolutely insane day in, day out and against big teams - absolutely devastated the likes of RM, Bayern, and Man United in the CL semis and final

His stats in 10/11 -

58 goals
27 assists
91 key passes
265 dribbles

I knew this idiot would be rattled

There's no way CR7's footballing level was anywhere close to 10/11 or 14/15 Messi - half of the goals he scored in 2017 CL KOs were tap-ins/offsides

Both Messi and CR7 needed super strong teams to dominate the CL - the difference is Messi dominated for the NT without a super team while CR7 has been a dud/loser outside of RM's super teams.

He is not allowed to score pens, header, tap-ins, goals with strong foot, a goal from inside the box......:benitez:

Leading a team which never won a title to a title is the real GOAT success without breaking the penalties record :pique:

He didn't even play in the final v France (without Mbappe).

The only leading he did was cheerleading

My point was it's incredible to think to this day that a 24 year old would be considered the GOAT.

Mbappe scored an incredible amount of goals and won WC earlier than that, but he's always been lightyrears away from that discussion. Shows that football isn't always about goals and titles, even if Messi dominates both today. He didn't back then and the eye test (which unfortunately is what people forget easiest) was so incredibly to his favour.

Wenger to come out and call Messi the GOAT in 2011 doesn't get enough credit. I mean, to us fans it was obvious, but to actually be the first to come out and say it in a public setting where you are open to ridicule was quite brave.

Not quite sure why Wenger didn't manage again after leaving Arsenal. A true visionary, who I would have welcomed as manager here in a heartbeat.
