Lionel Messi - v7

To be fair, PSG would destroy any current club. Only City has somewhat of a chance vs them. They were missing some key ingredients in their previous teams, first Leadership: They now have a huge mental leader in Ramos, Spark/magic needed at low points: Messi can provide them exactly that. Also Messi is a huge boost to Mbappe. Who was the last forward he had that could break the line and run past defenders? He is gonna set assist records. They have a team good enough for two CL runs.

But yes, compared to 14-16 Barca they are still weaker IMO. Entire level of football at that time was also higher

If Bayern keeps their 19-20 level, we will see an epic CL semi-final or final.

1 Messi did not want to leave
2 Secretly Laporte wanted Messi to leave
3 Laporte says we cannot afford Messi but SIGNS MORE PLAYERS and REFUSED CVC he made sure Messi would have to leave
4 This year all the Messi haters will see how much he really meant to this team
5 We will not play young players look who they added Depay Aguero etc this will never be a youth based team
6 PSG will now have a team greater than MSN it is the greatest team in the history of world football now SMH

I would say Laporta did not want Messi to leave. They had an agreement with a 50% salary reduction because Laporta was counting on the CVC deal that Tebas would bring. The terms were probably not very financially favorable for Bar?a, and it would probably mean Bar?a has to forget about the Super League for good. Because of this, it all fell apart and it was probably a shock for Leo.
Laporta had a difficult decision to make. It does suck for Messi to leave, especially like this and when he wanted to stay, but it was probably not worth having 2 more years with him and not really have chances to fight for the CL, and probably not even La Liga.
Perhaps more transparency from Laporta with Messi's side would have made more sense, but it is what it is. Can't blame Laporta for much else besides this.

It sucks now, we will probably suck for a couple of years, but it was necessary. Cut the dead weights over the next years and bet on the youngsters we currently have. Build to compete in 2024.

Can I say how truly daft it is that La Liga has lost its greatest ever player because they are so eager to implement some form of FFP, yet the club Messi has joined simply ignores all and any form of FFP?

La Liga isn't responsible for Barca's ridiculous transfers, obscene wages and financial kamikaze over the last 4-5 years that lead to this situation.

No other club is La Liga is having these issues.

It's all Barca's fault.
