Real Oviedo midfielder Francisco Portillo, who was key in the Blues' victory over Mirandés by scoring the third goal, secured his fifth consecutive promotion to the First Division this weekend.
With Betis, Getafe, Almería, Leganés, and now Real Oviedo, 35-year-old Málaga native Francisco Portillo has been promoted to the First Division every time he has competed in the Second Division, something unique in the history of the second division.
While he had clearly played a leading role in the four previous promotions, Portillo arrived at Real Oviedo in mid-November and, after a good start, gradually faded from the starting lineup, although he ended up playing a total of 22 matches.
In the play-off semifinals against Almería, the midfielder didn't play a single minute in the first leg and only featured in injury time in the second leg at the Carlos Tartiere stadium. In the first leg of the final against Mirandés at Anduva, Portillo was again left out.
It was in Saturday's decisive match at the Carlos Tartiere stadium that Portillo was once again a talisman. After replacing Colombatto in the 82nd minute, he led Real Oviedo into extra time, also scoring the goal in the 103rd minute that gave the Carbayones half their promotion and sent the Oviedo stadium into a frenzy.
