So far there's still some air in the schedule with no mid-week games here and there, at least before winter. In the future however we should count on having 2 games per week all season long with the greed in football. More teams in CL, expansion of WC and CWC. Creations of worthless competitions like Nations League all contribute to congestion. Mo games mo money.

Development will be that teams will have stronger squads to be able to rotate and also fewer clear cut stars. In PL we already see clubs hoarding players. Width and rotations will be more and more important in football. Subs might increase to 6 to compensate for this.
