We can have a midfield triangle that is elite at keeping the ball, moving around, and controlling the game. Feeding Messi with exceptional service constantly.

That is worth trying before being dismissed as not viable. No harm trying that when up 4-0 in min 60 of a game.

We can try it but De Jong's is liberated in this role, putting him back at DM and having him stay deep would be counter-productive at this point. Pedri/Puig/FdJ can play plenty of football as three options for two interior midfield roles.
