We haven't looked right at all this season so far, lot of work to do. Rapha back will help, and Lewa to finish chances but I can't see us doing anything until we get solid defensively. Cubarsi OR Eric for me, not both together. They both need a more dominant defender next to them. Our conditioning looks off though, Pedri, Yamal and Kounde all look tired to me, no sharpness. Pedri at least will get a rest now. I still think we need a DM too, someone who can protect the back four, break up attacks, sniff out danger and compete physically.
Long time to go yet though, no need for doom and gloom. We still have some very promising young players who should improve. I see some Cubarsi hating now, the kid is 18 ffs and has over 100 games for Barca, 8 caps for Spain, a Liga winners medal and a Copa winners medal. Where was Van Dyk at 18 or Pique? He will get stronger and more physical as he gets older, i'm sure of it.

Watching this again Barca were trying something different on picking up the full backs when attacking.

Wonder if this was brought on by PSG game and how much Real use theirs.

Looked like when ball went to opposition full back the attacking players didnt follow them but the Barca full backs pushed up to them early to mark while the attacking players went narrower to prevent easier balls into midfield.

Almost like let them have the ball in areas can try to control the next action as opposed to trying to close them down and follow in a frenzied/chaotic situation.

It actually worked well enough for most part.

Barca really didnt play that badly yesterday all things considered.

Shaky with balls into box and quick counters still but tactically were decent enough.

Barca win that game if have calmer head in final third.

Would love to have seen Yamal in at AM while game was open. They were leaving Fermin wide open in that area at expense of closing Pedri/FDJ and the wide players.

There is scope for a fluid front 4 for Barca if Rashford/Yamal and Raphinha all play.

Can move about to different roles as see fit v opposition.

Yeah, would be factitious to say we would win if calmer, when Madrid stuffed a number of one on ones and missed a pen.

Were key moments where we missed a big chance like Kounde, or the Fermin run and no pass, but Madrid had way more of those. Probably 3 times more.

Madrid played with our line, and sometimes beat it sometimes not.
Penalty from eric's handball is not an open-play chance

Madrid were disciplined on and off the ball, unlike last season
we are at our worst right now, unlike last season again

But let's not blow things out of propoprtion: Madrid did not dominate the game at all.
This was more or less equal in terms of chances/domination.

There was situation in first half right at start where Fermin gets ball on turnover and he just needs to play the ball to Yamals feet who has Carreras 1v1 to run at.

Fermin needs to make that pass and then move to be an option with Barca heading towards Real area in a good situation.

But he tries to be far too elaborate and play ball in behind Carerras and chance goes.

A number of those types of moments that good situations broke down early.

Can someone explain to me why this CUNT has been getting away with the VERY SAME penalty on the most important games over the spam of the last 10 years?
Because he knows well, that bodychecks even hard ones result very rarely in penalties. It always seems like a too hard punishment, especially from the ref point of view. He exploits it.
Why don't the refs see him exploiting it and give a few penalties especially against him, for him to stop doing it, is another question.

Fermin twice made wrong choices,
Kounde after Lamine's cross

that's huge xG for each one.
We are talking about 3 sitters here

I didn't realize till now creampie's didn't even count towards xG lmao

even I could've got a chance off from a chest control on that and I'm old-ish

dark times

MATS missed near enough all season.
Bernal did his ACL.
Christensen missed near enough all season.
Araujo missed first half of season.
Frenkie not fit until 2nd half of season.
Gavi the same.

Plenty others missed large parts.

Who was out injured for Real in the 'league decider' for example?

Frenkie is the only powerhouse in this list. Meanwhile:

Carvajal ACL for most of the season.
MIlitao with his second ACL for the most of the season.
Mendy out for most of the season due to muscle related injuries.
Alaba ACL in 23/24, and being a non-factor for 24/25 due to injuries.
Rudiger playing injured for a couple of months with knee problems.

That˙s just defense.
