Yes he's been brilliant (with highs and lows) for a few years now. He's a fantastic footballer. So much technical quality, faster than he looks, and work rate.

Also, reading through the thread, it shows how fickle the life of a footballer is.

One good season, you're the best thing since sliced bread. Come down from that and you're a fraud. Then make a move to another club, play excellently again, and everyone loves you once more.

Lol.

Maybe the simple fact is that even great players like this fella go through peaks and troughs.

Was buzzing to watch him live and he stunk the place out.

He was awful at Villa Park considering the hype he comes with. If you don't give him space to run into and your full back is aggressive against him, he can look very one dimensional.

He had Timber on skates the first half yesterday. Total baller.

Was thinking of the similarities between him and Villa Grealish too. Lucky he joined a team like PSG rather than letting Pep turn him into a backpass merchant.

Villa Grealish is an imaginary player in your head.

Grealish at Villa was a completely different player to the one at City, far less direct now and keeps thing simple. At Villa he’d have a go at people all the time.

People blame Pep but I think stylistically it was always a weird fit. Said so in this forum at the time. He’s also lost pace, whilst he was never close to an Mbappe he had underrated speed. Watch some Villa games from 19/20 or 20/21 and you’ll see the difference. Probably down to accumulation of injuries that he’s always seem to have gotten.

At City he was very good in their treble run especially against Bayern and made Carvajal look like a donkey against Madrid too but in general he’s been a flop. When he came on in 21/22 Madrid away match and almost scored twice you had a snippet of how he was with us but too often that guy hasn’t showed up.

I also think an often overlooked element of it was his inability to deal with the pressure of the price tag too after effectively being catapulted into a big team and national attention. He was a big fish in a small pond for us and we basically couldn’t win without him. Our results dipped massively when he got his yearly injuries. At City he’s just another good footballer.

He’s also a sensitive lad as well where I think the pressure of not messing up lead to him to reverting to this cautious winger to avoid criticism.

TLDR; Just tell us if Villa Grealish was a myth or not? :mou:
