Joan Laporta

Point is, are there not younger, more capable, less nepotistic people in Catalunya. Someone with fresh ideas and genuine work ethic and business acumen.

Not this fat dinasour.

There is a reason everyone hates their leaders everywhere and think "we can do better" and rarely you see a fanbase satisfied.

Like where are those great beloved club presidents across Europe? Perez (who isn't that much appreciated atm from his fanbase btw) and who else? Bayern who had their leaders not paying minimum wages or taxes? PSG who were throwing money until something sticks? City who did the same? Arsenal who has been rebuilding everywhere? Liverpool who mostly had stingy owners who lucked out in getting Klopp for the most part?

And for all those characteristics you mentioned, you failed to mention the most important one : Someone who can actually win.

Maybe there is some 40 years old executive out there who could act as a better club president, sure. But how can you identify that guy and how can he win?

This isn't defending Laporta btw, but finding someone that fans deems half competent isn't as easy as you make it.

PS: Laporta is 63, hardly a dinosaur. Perez was one year younger when he arrived for 2nd stint in 2009

Barca from the 90s was the reference point for everyone. Biggest stadium, clean sponsorless shirt, rich, clear identity.
It stood as reference for everyone else.
Maybe my standards are stuck somewhere in time but I see the rot everywhere. And it's mainly the moral corruption plus the general ineptitude reeking from Laporta.
Could always be worse as Gni said but I just don't see excellence in current board that club of this stature deserves and needs in these times.

Liverpool fans love FSG even though they are stingy most of the time.

City fans literally worship Sheikh Mansour lol. From the day he arrived. They were irrelevant before him.

Chelsea fans absolutely adored Roman. Still do.

Colour me shocked. Fans of sugar daddy clubs which were irrelevant before said sugar daddy came on the scene, worship said sugar daddy.

And Liverpool fans don't love FSG, otherwise they wouldn't have been doing cartwheels of joy a few years ago when there was rumours of a Saudi takeover. I know a lot of Livvy fans, not one doesn't dislike the owners, mainly for their stingy transfer market ways.

I can't think of a more popular club owner/president in world football right now then Don Laporta. Maybe Tony Bloom, who seems to have the magic wand, but he has only been at small clubs.

Messi could come out right now and back Victor Font and it wouldn't make a blind bit of difference. Most Cules, bar a tiny minority on the internet, know he is doing an incredible job and that the good times will probably come to an end when he isn't at the wheel no more.

There isnt a better or even close alternative to Laporta.
And Laporta has done well. Even though there are quite a few things I would like this board to change or do differently. Constant lying is one of them.
But Fatporta deserves another term.

Having said that. Are there no other good candidates in the race?
Cuz that's what makes the main candidate perform, or there will be complacency and Laziness. Given Deco, guy is a bit lazy with all the reports we have seen.
Which is what I am afraid is going to happen.

And yet, Nunez was called every name on the book and was widely hated, especially after Crujif left. The same question you asked were asked about him, except Internet was just a baby and essentially only media had a voice.

So, that for large part was hindsight, and being stuck for the good old days. Great leaders and great times are mostly recognised after it is over, rather than during the time it happened.

Sure, we aren't in our glory days. But if we manage to win La Liga, that's 3 league titles in 5 years during financial crises, while fixing the Camp Nou. That's hardly a failure. Even before our financial hardship, fans didn't expect as much in the post-Messi era.

You can say Laporta should thank Flick, but Nunez had Crujif to thank to.

Could we do better? Sure.
Could we do far worse: absolutely.
