Absolute nonsense.

Lying even more about Messi brings nothing positive.

It takes 5 minutes for Messi to dismiss it and show club to be liars again which there is already enough evidence of and how treat current/former players.

Club doesn't need to lie. Messi said he hoped to return one day. It creates a huge buzz around fans, media, sponsors. We should be using that speculation to our advantage. Its good for the brand and generates more attention for the club. Laporta himself doesn't need to come out and dismiss it even if it were to never happen.

Laporta had the chance to use this to hopefully make amends with Messi with a reconciliatory tone, but instead probably went on and confirmed Messi distancing himself from him even more.

Don't think it would have killed him if he accepted that the way the entire thing was communicated and handled was terrible and that he wished he had done it differently.

Seemingly also confirmed that Messi not talking with anyone from the club and going to Camp Nou spontaneously was indeed true.

Didn't Laporta's opponent in the election also say he would extend Messi's contract? This statement was probably necessary to win the election. If Laporta had told the truth back then, someone else would likely have won, and the same scenario would have repeated itself, as the club, with its problems at the time, couldn't afford to sign Messi. I think the best thing Laporta can say now is the truth regarding Messi's return; unfortunately, he's too proud to admit why things played out the way they did. A return before the World Cup is unrealistic for several reasons, and hopefully, there will be a single farewell match afterward. The Messi and Barca chapter is closed, and all that remains are good memories.

I won't talk about the Messi situation because everyone becomes a bit fanatical when he is involved. Maybe Laporta was to blame. But the Laporta hate mob genuinely confuses me.

The way they pounce on any perceived slight of his, turning any misdemeanor into a death penalty offense is just bizarre. You would think that Barca has had a long list of wonderful presidents in the past, the way they go on, but we all know it's quite the contrary.

Even Laporta's biggest detractors will have to concede he is the most successful Barca president in our history by a country mile.

Some ridiculously claim he got ' lucky ', but he inherited two polar opposite situations and came up smelling of roses both times. So what is actually the problem?

Especially considering the alternatives that we have today that are franky laughable.

With Messi and way has lied to him and treated others his mouth catches up with him at times.

He doesnt get a free pass due to some fallacy he 'saved the club' through loans and levers and at same time doesnt get judged on 'normal' standards either due to situation when came in.

If he did more would get made of Reals x2 CLs and the scuddings in Europe etc when that is not the focus as much and leeway given and more discussion about decisions being made to help club get back.. some good some bad. Depending on opinion.

Reverter then didnt go to Laporta he went to the individual who backed Laporta with the 40m election guarantee who in turn told Laporta he would rescind it if the deal went ahead.

Perez saved Barca from Laportas usual dictaorship style decision.

The fact Laporta tried to sneak through that CVC deal and the details of it without consulting the board and socios is a scandal and Barca were saved from him.

Seems like a tiny price to pay when the alternatives are Gaspart, Bartomeu, Font and Freixa.

Do folk really want any of those as president because Laporta lies a bit ? Because those are the alternatives are they not? Some here have suggested Pique, but they don't want him either.

Shudder to think what state this current Barca would be if Font or Freixa had been elected. Or maybe we should have elected Elena Fort?

Font, Freixa or Fort? Fucked would have been the outcome with any of those.

Next to no chance we are challenging for all the titles with any of them, like we are now with Laporta. Are folk really willing to give that up because Laporta runs his mouth?

Again, willing to hear this mythical guy that will Make Barca Great Again. Because not heard a name up to this point, as everyone knows will look comical when compared to Laporta.
