Should have moved him to double pivot.

I'm half serious here. Would work well there at one of the Spanish big 3.
Some City fans have wanted him to play in midfield for a long time, but Pep has never really tried it.

I am not convinced about him there. But surely worth giving it a chance.

It's pretty sad that Pep has coached all of his natural flair out of him. He was a joy to watch at Villa. Now he's all about ball retention. He still has his worth, there's few better at getting his team up the pitch and drawing defenders which leaves space for others. But he should be so much more than that with the ability he has.

More likely he has out drink, out chinesed(food) and out banged his best qualities.

People are overrating Aston Villa Grealish, the same thing happened to Joe Cole in Chelsea. He is just a big fish in a small pond player. In a big club his original play style would not function as good like in a smaller, both him and Pep were smart enough to realize that.

Load of nonsense really.

And the only thing that held Cole back were constant injuries, nothing else.

Playing at Villa where teams would be more willing to leave space behind vs. playing for City where a lot of teams will stay compact are two very different things.

Yes, Pep probably has gone overboard with his obsession with control lately, but Grealish probably just finds it far more difficult to do what he did at Villa regardless.

Pep did the same to Mahrez. While he still had some flair at City, it was like 20% of the flair he had at Leicester.

Similar situation. It's always easier if you play with lots of space behind the defence.
Mahrez was still top class at City though.
