Harry Kane

Yeah I know that it has no bearing on who's the best - just giving some reasoning for why he didn't leave Spurs earlier. Plus, he probably (mistakenly) thought Spurs could take the next step. He is a great guy it seems but he doesn't seem the smartest off the pitch. Levy probably convinced him for years, spun him lies about how Spurs could conquer Europe. I believe Mourinho does similar in that All or Nothing documentary series.

He truly is a great player. The problem is he's 33 by the time the World Cup ends and next season starts. As good as he is - and he doesn't rely on pace and doesn't seem too bad with injury record these days - it's always risky to buy someone that age. If he was the same age as Haaland and performing as he is now, I'd say every club in Europe should desire him. But how long does he really have left at the level he's at? Maybe 36 at most? That's three years. I am sure he will be a good player still after that but this level he's at is impossible almost for anyone to maintain past 35 or 36.

In all honesty, him going to Barca would never happen for many reasons. But in a hypothetical world, I'd be looking more long-term and trying to find a gem or prime player aged 26-27 (like Osimhen as many want, as an option). He's not as good as Kane for me, not by a long chalk (though he is very good), but he is the right age profile, and as Tempt and others said, brings a physicality and power and raw aggression that Barca could use in a number 9.

1st paragraph could be true, would makes sense why he stayed there for so long

agree with 2nd & 3rd paragraph

ok time to go off now

I think he's better than Lewandowski, but I am not a big fan of Robert. He's just a great goalscorer with a pretty good all-round game, he's not a world-class playmaker like Kane.

What big moments does Lewandowski have? Other than maybe the Madrid game for Dortmund? He's consistently failed in the latter stages of the CL. He hasn't even really got many at Barca either. And all that stuff about the Bundesliga and 'Bayern tax' also applies to him, if not more so. He did well at Dortmund fair enough, but Dortmund were second best team in the league, sometimes best.

You can hardly act like Kane's a flat track bully when he has did really well in a good but not top of the league Tottenham team (mainly good due to he and Son) and used to run riot in goalscoring and playmaking against the best teams. He's far more proven in non-elite teams than Lewandowski is.

Shearer was amazing but never had close to Kane's playmaking skills. And he also played in a weaker era of the PL. As Tempt points out though he had other abilities he was a bit better than Kane in.

I think a lot of world class strikers don’t often score in finals. Not just Kane. Of course, you have someone like Drogba who loved to score in finals, and yet didn’t score anything like the amount of goals every season a Kane or Lewandowski do year after year. Also you have to look at each final and the other factors that come into play. Kane wasn’t anywhere near fit when Spurs played Liverpool and should have been on the bench. But their manager, Pochettino, felt like he had to start him out of loyalty to the player and his friend. Then the Euro final for England against Italy, you can’t blame Kane for England going 1 goal up and then sitting back for the rest of the game, totally abandoning what had got them the lead in the first place. Not saying Kane couldn’t have done a bit better, but you do have to look at things as a whole.

Yeah I agree. It's not just making excuses - it isn't just black and white and, for every player, not just Kane, there are extenuating circumstances.

My contention is that we should judge players by their ability rather than one-off games anyway. I mean Ronaldo has been rubbish in most of his CL finals and most World Cup knockout games, but it doesn't mean he's not an excellent ATG level player. Messi has been on the end of some sore ones in the CL since 2015, but he's still the GOAT.

I feel sometimes some players are more popular than others, and 'get away' with more in the eyes of fans. I have alluded to that before, you might have seen me say it.
