Harry Kane

Despite all the goals he has scored for club and country over the years it still feels like he's somewhat under-rated. When you look at his whole game, he's the most complete number 9 on the planet. What other striker sprays the ball around and brings others into play like he does? Or wins so many headers and makes so many clearances from set-pieces in his own box?

The narrative about him scoring only penalties is utter BS as well when factually his open play goals in his career is at just about 80%.

He is underrated because he played for Spurs so many years, he is still good but he was quicker 2-3 years ago. Also he is unlucky to have Kompany now, if Bayern gets a decent coach he can maybe win a cl. With Tuchel his chances to win WC or EURO should be way higher.

I can see him playing as a number 10 soon enough. His inability to press won't matter as much playing as a 10 rather than a 9, and he will still get plenty of chances to score goals.

I love the guy. Humble, hard working and just a genuinely top class player. It's actually insane how many England fans have said negative things about him over the years, albeit a lot of it is just bitterness stemmed from club rivalry.

Shearer won the league with Blackburn and has the PL all time goal record. Think he still has a better PL legacy rn.
Fair.

On the other hand Kane has more technical ability in terms of passing and vision, and I'd argue is a better team player (Shearer had insane physicality, hold-up play and was great in the air though, better shot from range than 'Arry as well).

Kane would likely have beaten the goal record had he stayed even three more seasons. I don't think it's that relevant anyway - they both score so many goals that <50 goals for Kane in a shorter top flight English career doesn't matter that much. Plus the game has changed a fair bit since Shearer retired, so it's hard to make 1:1 comparisons.

In terms of international tournaments, Shearer was probably better atEuro 96 than Kane has been at any - then again Kane won the golden boot in 2018 (mostly stat padding with penalties) and England have been more successful than when Shearer played. I also feel Shearer retired early from the NT because he was getting fed up of the influence Beckham was exerting in terms of 'WAG culture', but that is more a hunch on my part as heard nothing solid about that.

I just feel overall that Kane is the better player. But Shearer is a PL legend and was a brilliant player when I was growing up in the 90s.
