Don Juan Laporta Estruch

Basta yaaaaaaa, Cabron ! y Bona nit 🥂
@soul24rage

Thoughts on Greatest Ever XI? Obviously cannot get everyone in. Maybe make Zico replacement for Maradona than Platini.

Garrincha and Di Stefano especially out of position but they'd adapt in modern football.

Ronaldo? Doesn't even get into my second best ever Xi.

My best XI

Buffon

Alves, Beckanbauer, Maldini, Carlos.

Xavi. Zico.

Messi. Maradona. Pele.

R9.

Both of your lineups are carefully chosen, but rather offensively minded. It is of course very tempting to want to accommodate all the biggest players; that may even have been your main concern. I want to suggest a more balanced approach:

Neuer

Alves, Beckenbauer, Baresi, Maldini

Xavi, Rijkaard

Messi, Cruyff, Cristiano Ronaldo

Pelé

Further considerations:

Since my back line is quite short (1.72m; 1.81m; 1.76m; 1.86m), I'm considering replacing Baresi with a more physical center-back. I was thinking of Figueroa or even Virgil van Dijk. I know Virgil isn't even close to Baresi's career in terms of achievements, but he would be a big asset on set pieces and it would give the central defense significantly more physicality overall.

In my personal XI I've mostly opted for a 4-3-3 in a more Barça-minded style. I'll share that one later, as I have an appointment soon.

Great team mate.

Did not make it clear but yeah, I was mostly picking a hypothetical best players in their position team with no care for tactics, on this occasion. My defence was very similar to youes (cafu and Alves are similar players and much of a muchness), but my midfield includes Cruyff who wasn't a holding player really, even if he could do that.

I wouldn't worry about Baresi's height - he was a defensive master and his positioning and bravery largely made up for it. But I understand in the modern arena it might catch you more.

First of all i find it disrespectful to CR7 if you put another player under him, there is no competition on LW position, he is by far the best LW of all time.

Otherwise looks good. But where is Costacurta??

Yo that version showed the world you can be winger AND score 60 goals per season, first time we've ever seen sth like that. Without the injury he could have played 2-3 years more with that playing style.
It was a very very good player to watch for the most part.

Other than that 5 year spell, and early days at United. not really been a big fan.

I think I told you this before, but when I was a kid and into my early 20s I was a big fan of flashy footballers. So I was 21 when Ronaldo joined Man United, and he was 18. And I became a big fan of his for a few years (despite hating the club).

But that was before I learned about his personality lol. He still had the exuberance of youth, as did I.

In an alternate reality I could have been his fanboy like you now

Im surprised to read the character comment as i would say most ppl hated him more in his young Manu days than when he got older. I think the special attribute from CR7 was to be flashy AND effective. He did skills like a brazilian but still won you the match with goals and assists.
