These bums don't have the great Manuel Neuer on the list :lol:
Suarez seems low at 24 too. Mbappe way too high at 6. He still has a lot of career to go, though in World Cup his scoring is amazing.

Modric above Xavi AND Iniesta is bzarre, despite his brilliance. Henry at third is obviously laughable too.

Other notable omissions include the likes of Ribery, Robben and Di Maria. But I get that it's very tough competition.

I mean, if Buffon is 25, then I don't expect another GK on the list.

Kind of funny, because this century had many historical GK, the trio of Cech, Buffon and Casillas were amazing for too long. Then Neuer obviously, and then you have Cortouis. All of those are all timers.

That isn't counting the "ordinary great" GK like Oblak, Van der Sar, Alison
I think Neuer was better than Buffon overall and if there's only gonna be one GK there, it should be Neuer. Of course they should both be there most likely.

I also prefer Alisson to Courtois and Casillas but it is splitting hairs as all three were great.

These lists are always subjective. There is no single criterion that all fans agree on when evaluating a player. Much also depends on how successful the team was in the player's period, so luck plays a role too. For example, I guarantee you that Kroos wouldn't have made into that list if Madrid wouldn't have won so many CLs in his time.

That's very true, all of that.

To back up the point about subjectivity, there's an argument (not that I would necessarily agree) that Lahm, Neuer and/or Schweinsteiger are German players more deserving of a placing in that list than Kroos.

Gay discussion and list, but he was vital to Madrid winning in the CL and for Germany. Least wrong pick on the list. He would have been good in any team.

Brazil would beg for a midfielder like Kroos.

Cannot find a Van Basten thread so will post it here. Went down the rabbit hole of the Linkin Park reddit after all the talk of the CL Final. Look at this guy's list of players better than Van Basten (he said MVB isn't top 20 ever)...

Cristiano Ronaldo, Leo Messi, Diego Maradona, Pelé, Eusebio, Cruyff, Zidane, Maldini, Beckenbauer, Roberto Carlos, Alfredo Di Stéfano, Sergio Ramos, Kaká, Iniesta, Modrić, Puskas, Thierry Henry, Gerd Müller, Ronaldinho, Lothar Matthäus

Roberto Carlos :lol: :lol:
Sergio Ramos :lol::lol::lol:
Kaka :lol::lol::lol:
Thierry Henry :lol::lol:

All great players, but better in the history of football than Van Basten?

Van Basten is easily top 20 of all time.

Van Basten is the greatest European footballer, closely followed by Platini, of all time in my opinion. He basically won it all by 28.

The greatest and most complete centre forward in football history, not named R9.

Yeah he's definitely up there and in with a shout of that. Though I would still go Cruyff or Beckenbauer myself.

I'd say he's the second-best CF ever year, after R9. With Puskas, Muller, Eusebio and Romario next.

BOAT list (best of all time)

1. Messi
2. Maradona
3. Pele
4. Cristiano
5. Cruyff
6. Di Stefano

GOAT list (accomplishment, impact, legacy)

1. Cristiano
2. Messi
3. Pele
4. Maradona
5. Di Stefano
6. Cruyff

How do you justify Cristiano being ahead of Messi on accomplishment ?
it's very close to tell you the truth. If we are talking football ability only, then no one can compare to Messi.

I always thought Ronaldo to be the "greater" player but Messi's World Cup makes it much harder to tell.

I would still have 3 CL's back to back than a World Cup. But Messi has few of Copa America and nearly double the leagues. Ronaldo's cabinet is more diverse. I dont really rate Nation League that much.

It's really hard to tell. That some people still believe Ronaldo to be a "better" player, completely baffles me, though.

This GOAT vs BOAT acronym battle is brainrot to me.

And your arguments are self contradicting since Messi is superior to Cristiano in every accomplishment, individual or collective. He has the most collective trophies, most individual awards which Cristiano himself praised until Messi surpassed him severly. Cristiano isnt even a better goal scorer since Messi is more efficient (games vs goals) and he has 150 less games played than the portuguese.

In terms of impact again Messi has been crucial in every trophy that his teams won, especially if we talk finals. Cristiano didnt have the same impact in some of these games.

Legacy is one of the things that define you as the Greatest. Messi was getting shoutouts since he was 22-23 year old. Most people in the sport (managers/players) say that he's the greatest they've seen. Similar to how Ronaldo Nazario is talked about when we mention the best striker. Most football legends that faced him are in awe of his influence.

And then about the World Cup vs UCL, everyone knows the World Cup is the epitome of football. Regardless if you win it as Brazil or as Denmark, this is the highlight of your career. And yet most people already saw Messi as the greatest even without winning it.
