Because Valverde is determined to do everything to remain manager. He doesn't really care about his reputation or else he'd have retired after Liverpool. This is probably an attempt to make the board feel guilty and keep him. Maybe even extend him as an apology .

Poch is a reactive manager. His teams constantly sit back, soak pressure, and play off on quick counters. He suffers when his team has to orchestrate positional attacks, which is what he'll have to do a lot at Barcelona.
