He moved to Spain at age 5. Spent formative years there.
Funny observation: People in Netherlands assume he has more affinity with Netherlands than Dean lets on and then hold it against him more he picked spain. And my theory is what plays into it a lot is his Dutch.
He speaks Dutch without an accent. Unlike Asensio for example. So people in Netherlands when they hear him they recognize a very Dutch individual.
But the keen observer(me) will hear that his Dutch is way more limited than most think. The accent kind of embellishes it.
That is also why I think people think he sounds cocky in general. But it is due to limited vocabulary so he tends to give short ‘cold’ answers.
I have shared my theory on dutch news site and many people have subscribed to it now and see it now as well.
