It is very simple imo. Ball bounces of Lewa before it gets to Cubarsi. It's interpreted as a pass of Lewa to Cubarsi. Cubarsi is off by a few centimeters compared to the Atletico player.

It's harsh, but that's the thing with VAR, you have to accept these decisions hoping you'll also benefit from very close offsides called against your opponents.

As i pointed out during the game if they are calling cubarsi offside theyve got it wrong.

I am rewatching it and at moment lewandowski passes it his left foot is ahead of cubarsis.

Image above Lewandoski had already released ball. If you then go frame earlier you will see that cubarsi is put onside by Pubill

In no instance is Cubarsi both behind lewa and atletico defender when Lewa is supposed to have made pass.

What do you mean 'released' they are saying he was off when Lewa touched it.

When Lewa last touched it that is, it's not a clean touch either. Imo he's off by a few cms. That's why I'm not that fussed about it. That and the score lol.

Off when Lewa touches it is what they determined.

What is the error in that.. assuming line is drawn in correct place.

I am not basing it only on their line. It's a super close play, based on the replay, Cubarsi is either dead level or just very slightly offside. Almost surely he is not farther back than AM player when Lewa touches the ball.

I didn't even celebrate the goal because I knew it can be called offside personally. So that play is not my main gripe with this ref. It's the way he let AM players know they can get away with clear yellows in the start of the game and give them nothing.

You give 2 yellows like he should have done, then those AM players can't afford to go in as hard as they did.
