Been Reading and Surrey before that. Chessington as a kid was the nuts. The fookin' Samurai was where it was at as a ride.

Then they had the land issues and all developments went Thorpe Park.

Ah to be a kid.
I think I remember that ride. I remember my mum being terrorised by wasps. I am a bit of a pussy so it was my first rollercoaster. Haven't been on one since.

It was a boiling hot summer day (actually I was 13, it was 1995) and loved the water rides. They were so much fun and so refreshing.

30 years ago mate, where does that time go?

I think Samurai come a bit later. I'll try and find a pick and the actual name. It was this spinning thing.

Used to love a themepark as a kid. Used to go on anything, the more loops the better. Only one I didn't like was the side to side boat things. Never trusted those loose harnesses across the legs.

Ah right, fair enough. There was a rollercoaster we went on but cannot actually remember its name.

Ah yeah the side to side boat things. I think we done them, I quite like them. I liked the water rides where you went up high and came down. I can't remember most of the names and that.

Also liked the ghost house type attractions. I vaguely remember liking other stuff but cannot actually remember in detail.

Theme parks are good if you like that sort of thing. Just I am a pansy with rollercoasters. We went to Blackpool the next year with my football team for a tournament we played in, and the Pepsi Max had not long been opened. Everyone tried to get me to go on it but I refused.

So here's the samurai. My mind didn't deceive me. They debuted it at Chessington and then moved it to Thorpe Park after their expansion.

What a ride for a kid in the early 2000s / late 90s.

The one your thinking of was the other one that comes before that and was a big one. That shoots the water in the face. Fuck I forgot the name, but it had an Egyptian theme. Rameses Revenge was it?

That Samurai is looking amazing fun lol. I am sure there was a pirate themed ride when I went too.

Rameses Revenge! That is the rollercoaster I went on. Thanks mate, you are some man.

'Rameses Revenge was a Top Spin ride at Chessington World of Adventures Resort theme park in southwest London, England, introduced in 1995. It was the world's first top spin ride to feature a drown-upside-down element.'

Sorry mate..that was maybe a bit harsh by me. Shouldn't police your posts..I was in a suspicious mood

Looking with fresh eyes it seems more innocent. Accept my apologies I hope.
all good

Just seemed like Madrid were the perfect example since they seem to be taking it more seriously than any other European team and obsessed with keeping their legacy of being most successful club., so are desperate to do well in CWC in case it eventually rivals or surpasses CL in importance.

Good stuff.

Yes that makes sense. I made that point myself the other week - it isn't prestigious now, but decades down the line it might look very prestigious. Like how Uruguay have won two world titles but the World Cup was nowhere near as big as it is now (though still more important than the CWC is now).

Of course we live in a different time - 2025 won't be as obscure or close to as obscure in 2120 as 1930 is now (you wouldn't imagine). Because we are getting near the height of human technology anyway in terms of TV etc.
