Club World Cup

Don Juan Laporta Estruch

Basta yaaaaaaa, Cabron ! y Bona nit 🥂
Rooting for Boca, River or Flamengo. In that order.

3 huge clubs who are as big as most European clubs.

Have Boca as 5th in my GOAT club list.

Would not put it past either of these 3 getting to the semis, with the passion their players and especially fans bring to the table.

I agree but probably I won't watch until the semis. Will watch Boca fans videos though...

The Boca game yesterday was so typical of a south American game.

Reminded me why I stopped watching Brazilian and Argentinian league football

Time wasting was very bad in the second half. Otherwise I liked it. Benfica players were watching and shouting at the ref all the time. It was played with South American rules. Totally different game. It was hilarious.

This tournament could be scrapped over the coming years, but also a chance it could become biggest club tournament in the world decades down the road if money and interest in the game outside europe progresses far enough,

Makes sense why Madrid are taking it so seriously to win some of the early editions of the tournament and then keep bragging rights for decades if it becomes a huge trophy like their early european cups in the 50s and 60s add to their status in that competition today.

Was about to give a thumbs up for the intelligent point made in the first paragraph (as I have said before myself).

Then read the second paragraph which is basically covert Madrid worship and a dig at Barca and became obvious trolling was afoot @KingLeo10

nah you're just trying too hard

Used Madrid as an example since people are questioning why they are taking it so seriously with bringing Alonso in early, Bellingham delaying surgery at the expense of missing months of La Liga, and paying 10m to have Trent for a tournament that many are comparing to a pre season trophy like the ICC. And their early european cups still give them bragging rights 70 years later so they're hedging that winning this tournament could likewise pay off down the road.

Tebas should be very careful with how he speaks... RM and FIFA could easily force him to resign if they so choose to. The next president will be even more of a Madridista than him I fear.....

Knew you'd say that.

Why not use the current European champions and best team, PSG? Or Man City? Or Bayern? They're all top clubs and elite teams (yes City and PSG are huge clubs now) and are going absolutely nowhere out of the picture. You could make a convincing argument that some of those clubs will be bigger than Real Madrid in 50 years. You can make arguments why they are taking it seriously, too. And they'll be thinking the same way. I understand they don't have the legacy comparison, but you could easily have mentioned them.

But no, conveniently and concidentally you pick RM out of your arse. On Barcaforum. And read how subtle that is worded - if you look beneath the surface it looks like a dig at Barcelona for their relative lack of success in CL compared to Real.

'Makes sense why Madrid are taking it so seriously to win some of the early editions of the tournament and then keep bragging rights for decades if it becomes a huge trophy like their early european cups in the 50s and 60s add to their status in that competition today.'

Call it paranoia. But this reads like a thinly-veiled dig and trolling, to me.
