⚠️ Warning: This post might trigger people because of the Madrid glaze but that's not the intention here

Recently, Bale said Madrid actively prioritize the CL over the LL. This is pretty much an open secret.

Their recruitment is based on this too.

I'll take Bellingham or Valverde over Pedri in a one off knockout tie anyday. In a league campaign, Pedri's superior ability will show up but in a knockout game Bellingham and Valverde's goalscoring instincts, pace and physicality would be way more directly useful. Typical Barca midfielders need the whole setup and system to be perfect for them to control the CL knockout tie. Madrid midfielders are more adaptable and tactically versatile. Compare Modric to Xavi and Iniesta.

Tchouameni and Camavinga would be more gritty in a CL game than Frenkie.

Players like Mbappe and Vinicius are so fast and deadly on the break that they can win games on their own anytime.

Most importantly, Courtois is the best shot stopper in the world. Garcia will never be at his level in terms of being an actual traditional goalkeeper.

Their recruitment seems CL based unlike Barca which is designed for league campaigns.

Pass.

The Paella boys were cooked by Declan Rice last year.

I guess that's just a different way of saying that physical, counter attack, playing in moments, suits big CL knockout games rather than trying to control the game and break down deep defences.

One thing I would take issue with is Xavi and Iniesta controlled a lot more big games than Modric and Kroos did in the CL - but again, that could be a factor of the systems of the respective clubs and the way they play.

In general I tend to think counter-attack is the cheaper, yet easier, way to win, so I understand what you mean in that post.
