Barcelona is exposed to a sanction in the next Champions League for violating UEFA financial rules for the second consecutive year, according to The Times. Chelsea and Aston Villa, according to this information, could also be sanctioned, but in their case it would be a milder punishment because it is the first offense they commit.
According to The Times, the punishment facing Barça may be to register a shorter squad, that is, a limitation of the number of players they can register in the competition, or a loss of points next season.
In October, Barcelona lost an appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for a fine of 500,000 euros for erroneously declaring its benefits. The CAS said at the time that the sanction was mild, but warned Barcelona: a second infraction would bring harsher sanctions.
"The CFCB (Club Financial Control Board) highlights that a similar infraction by the club in the monitoring process of the 2023-24 season would constitute a case of recidivism and the imposition of a more severe disciplinary measure on FC Barcelona would be addressed," said the CAS ruling.
This second infraction has arrived, according to The Times. UEFA will report in the coming weeks the details of the teams that have not complied with the financial rules.
