I do agree that it is likely that we will miss out on players like Mustafi and Umtiti. Most likely we will try to sign Mertesacker from Arsenal and John Terry. Experienced CBs and already played in the EPL. Plus Mertesacker is Arsenal player.

Valencia would take us to the cleaners in regards to Mustafi.

It's either pay the buyout or don't bother.

Valencia is struggling financially with the FFP and need all the money they can get. They are not in a position to drive a hard bargain. Especially not now that they are likely to lose out on European football too.

If it hadnt been for Mustafi, Valencia would have been below the relegation line now IMO. He'll leave be the end of the season to a bigger club almost certainly.

Point that I was making are challenges in the future and increased number of rivals in the market. We can't expect same results doing the same thing in a changed environment.

I agree, but we're having to change from a history of waste in the transfer market to being very prudent and signing the right players at the right time when more and more we're looking to either buy ready made stars, or players at already hyper-expensive value like Pogba, Laporte or Dybala.

Even under Pep we did some truly shocking business when not buying ex-La Masia players or promoting youth. Now even the La Masia production line has stopped, so we have to be so much better in the market.

Doubt it .I am also not sure Valencia had sold any player for buyout other than Mathieu and even him he had to take a paycut in order to make the move happen as we weren't interested to meet the buyout clause
Valencia sell with high prices ,but they are the kind of club who are sane enough to sell a player for good price and don't push it too much
Can see him sold for around 37-43 M rather than his 50M rumored buyout

Gotta say I've mixed feeling about Mustafi ,sometimes he plays as Jombi describe him .a guy who totally carry their defense on his own while other times he makes some bad performance where he is in the wrong places or not performing highly

While I do think our Main CB priority is Laporte, it wouldn't surprise me if we have another CB target that is flying under the radar that the papers really haven't linked.
