Laporta: "In principle, there will be no more new signings this summer. We have a good squad, and the coach wants to strengthen the first team with players from the reserve, so we don't expect new deals at the moment." [

This guy lol

Removing my major annoyance that we can't invest easily into another 20-30m, let's be realistic for a second.

RB
-Eric has proven to be White Kounde. If how he performed tail end season is his consistent level from RB then that position is solved.

LB
-Jofre Torrents is training under Flick, and our best fullback to come through La Masia in years. If you think we should go to Porkchop and buy one of their young fullbacks for 20/30m+ after playing well for a year in LaLiga3, then Jofre Torrents is that.

People are under rating Jofre I believe based off of Spain U19 where the manager didn't know his knee from his asshole and had to consistently be bailed out by Virgili and Kim off the bench until it was too late.

CB
-This is the major one more than FB. We have depth but Christensen, Inigo, Araujo all have injury problems. There's nothing from B as Cuenca didn't get pre-season and Kospo was sold. Hopefully Deco can find an Onion Bardji for the defence, ala Faye before.

If my estimates are correct, Kounde's renewal might have gotten us about 4-5m in FFP space.
Most of the renewals that have been completed before this, you can attribute them taking up the space that the Salary cap increased created, this summer.
And then with the sales of Pau, Torre, Longlegs, and other. We probably made about 21m in salary space. Add this 4-5m of Kounde. We got about 26m salary space.
And we still have to register: Olmo, Tek, Garcia, Rashford.

I don't see it happening until the terrorists' wage is freed up.

I give you one.

Everyone knew we needed a:
1- Starter GK
2- Backup LB
3- Backup LW.
That was the priority.
2/3 is not a bad business, but the severity of not getting a backup LB is quite high. And I will deem our transfer window as meh.

Ya ya, we have registration problems. I know. But we are competing in the UCL, they won't give us extra points for our financial difficulties, would they? So yeah.

Now if somehow this Ter Terrorist situation gets resolved, even for half the season, I see us trying for a LB. But that won't happen anytime soon.

Idk if everyone knew we needed that, everyone wanted a CB CB CB CB CB CB 😂 😂. I'm kidding.

They didn't even want a keeper, most were happy with Tek.

Most wanted a CB and LB.

But we landed on the right things, GK, LW, LB (may jofre save us or better rotations)

I think most would have been happy with Woj getting renewed and 25m to another position like LB or CB.

I'm fine with them seeing Joan as an opportunity. They have a damn sight better data than me and if Jofre is another Casado/Bernal then it's another major W for Flick and the board.

PSG on the other hand only one signing so far. A goalkeeper prospect on a free. Let's see how he works out as seen Donnarumma is gonna F them.

I would have been happy with that too, I said in the goalkeeper trend, a keeper and striker is what would improve the XI the most.

But I had zero expectations we would sign one, I'm still shocked.

Tek + LB would have been just as good, especially since I have no idea how good Garcia is.

Probably.

I am one of them that wants a CB with a profile of Schloterbeck. But a CB is 4th or 5th on my list.
And on top, if our finances permit. This is not a reality this summer. If we had ATM or RM finances, I would be livid if we didn't.

As for LB, I have hopes for Jofre, but still would have been ecstatic if we shipped Martin out and get a competent LB, even on a loan.
It is what it is, Jofre will be our saviour this season, I suppose.

Should stop wasting time with these rumors. The solution for us is to discover a good striker like all those other teams do, and develop that player in 2-3 seasons.

We won't be spending 150m on some player for many years.

This will always be the case, even if Flick would have the free pick from all the defenders in the world, thanks to the nature of his playing style. There are no defenders in the world, who will always look good defending in the center of the pitch. This system aims at high risk, high reward. But in return, we get the best attack in the world.
Gerard Martin's defending had nothing to do with Flick or his system. It was abysmal. Araujo's brain fart wasn't Flick's fault either, as he had tons of them under Xavi too and we defended entirely differently under Xavi.

His system invites pressure, sure, but even during times of no pressure those two look shaky. People keep blaming the coach, but the argument makes no logical sense, especially regarding Araujo. Martin just looks terrified, with or without the ball. All game long.

If we are broke, we are broke. I'd be willing to try almost anyone in Martin's place though.

Barca looks terrified and vulnerable as it is when facing off big physical sides in CL KO's, and we want to compound the problem by further reducing the average size of the team. Like a short backline wasn't enough so lets replicate it upfront. What we need is a proper 9 who's pacey, can bully defenders, provide aerial threat and help defend set-pieces. And that's not Julian Alvarez, even if he is the fantasy of the Barca president.

As if Firmino was some beast and other 9s that at many points were playing for the best sides in Europe were some beast in the air. Think this big, fierce, athletic 9 being the ideal choice by default is a myth personally. This fantasy got us Zlatan back in 2009. It comes at a mobility cost all the time. Big dominant target men suffer at link up play. Haaland himself, the referrence point for pivot style strikers, is mediocre at this.

Even PSG, they prefer to use a mobile speedster at 9, not a big pivot or a target man.

Give me a mobile workrate beast with proper link-up play abilities and I'll take that player all the time over some big poacher 9 who is largely invisible in link-up play.

Firmino - 5.11, Alvarez - 5.7

Even then choosing players must depend on the needs of the team. Barca is relatively short compared to other top CL sides, and last season struggled against Inter when defending set-pieces. Barca will be increasingly facing athletic sides going forward in the CL. I wasn't referring to a 9 that is merely big with brute force, but someone who's pacey, agile, but also offers decent aerial threat and can help out in defense.
