That's why I'm surprised that Xavi risks his reputation to attack Laporta that openly. Font doesn't have realistic chances and he must know this. So he risks to further damage his name just to get some public revenge on Laporta? Doesn't seem like a rational decision, but then again he showed how emotional he was during the games as our coach, so I assume this was another emotional decision by him, he'll come to regret later.
What does Xavi have to lose in the end? If the stuff he said weren't true then maybe he could be seen as a clown, but otherwise?

The fat fuck yapped endlessly about Messi, even after his departure. Now that someone called his lies he is deeply hurt. Wtf?!

The fact that Messi's entourage confirmed the truth of Xavi's statements is really hurting the fatty

He can't just deflect also Messi as 'Font's puppet' and all that ridiculous demagogue shit he is employing

Nah this actually makes me angry on Messi and Xavi’s behalf no wonder they pissed

"Laporta started negotiating the contract with Leo’s father, and we had the green light from La Liga, but it was Laporta who ended up pulling everything back.

"Laporta told me, literally, that if Leo returned they would make war against him and he couldn’t allow that. And then suddenly Leo stopped answering my calls because from Laporta's side they had told him it couldn’t happen.

"I called his father and said, ‘It can’t be, Jorge,’ and he told me, ‘Talk to the president.’ I insisted that we had been talking with Leo for five months, that everything was done, that from a football point of view there were no doubts and economically we were going to move to Montjuïc and do a ‘last dance’ like Jordan’s, everything was prepared.

"I was dying for Messi to come back so I could coach him, but they turned us against each other.” @LaVanguardia

Pretty much. The same circus, over and over again.
That's the nature of elections. What election isn't a circus show where both parties are not trying to discredit themselves? You are either lead like a dictatorship where there is no second opinion, or you have election and smear campaigns. I prefer the second.

If the stuff he said weren't true
Most of the things Xavi said we can't know or validate, just take his word for it. The fact, that he waited 2 years with his "insider" information to come out during election, tells me he's only out for revenge and that takes away all of his credibility. I don't see any other ex-player getting involved in this circus, even Messi who had the biggest reason according to Xavi and Font, but he didn't, contrary to Xavi who decided to take part in this. Why? Because he's butthurt how it ended with him as a coach, because he doesn't accept that the only one to blame for his ending, is himself.

Well, he's just giving his opinion, that's probably what he actually thinks.

That's all there is to it and it isn't some orchestrated plan to propel Font's campaign.

🚨🚨 BREAKING: Javier Tebas DENIES what Xavi said yesterday:

"La Liga did not authorise anything regarding Messi's return to Barcelona in 2023. They can’t register players do you really think they could sign Messi during the year the club had one of their most active transfer windows?”

Seen locals say that Font held his own in this debate in contrast to last time around.

Laporta will still win, but it might not be the landslide everyone thought it would be. Which would also mean he would be under somewhat pressure the next years to keep delivering proactively which honestly is a good thing for the club and all the fans.

Update on Mundo Deportivo's poll on the debate:

17411 votes
1 - Joan Laporta - 67% (11 626 votes)
2 - Victor Font - 33% (5 785 votes)

The debate doesn't seem to change drastically what polls suggest - Laporta W.

The club's current atmosphere of Camp Nou rebuild and exciting Flickball prevails over Messi-nostalgia and sleazy Laporta.

What a surprise Laporta's buddy Tebas came to defend him so one lying fat piece of shit can continue to vote for the other to stay in his job ruining La Liga except Madrid.

The poll doesn't necessarily reflect voting intention though. Since everyone can vote on these polls.

Although Laporta will still win.

Xavi contradicting his previous public statements as most of the aggregators have already dug up by now. No wonder Messi stopped talking to him at the time.

Laporta will behave and won't hit back hard but if Xavi weren't such a legend, his reputation could be wiped out. Out there supporting nepotism and throwing things at the wall that he himself denied in the past.

If anything, Xavi validated the board's decision to sack him.

Horrendous performance.
