Barca B's Squad List 21-22

Other than those already with 1st team (Nico & Gavi) this looks underwhelming squad tbh, with very little chance to make it to 1st team from any of them

PS: thanks for the work ajnotkeith

I guess all the top prospects are sniffing first team spot already, so not many good ones left.

In "normal" year, none of these prospects are playing with Barca. Only Fati and Pedri level, heck even Pedri barely made it last season.

12- Matheus Pereira

Matheus Pereira is another one of the signings made to strengthen the B squad. He arrived in 2020 from Juve in a move to balance the books as we made a Pjanic type swap deal for Alejandro Marques.
The 23-year-old is one of the older players on the squad. He is a CM who can also play AM and typically is quite direct, always having an eye for an assist, and provides some experience to the squad having spent some time with Juve's first team and in a season on loan at Ligue1 Djion.

Curiously, despite Barca B's renewal of talented Jandro Orellana he has often found himself on the bench in favour of Matheus, with Sergi Barjuan preferring the more experienced Matheus despite him not being a prospect for the first-team.

➡️ - An external signing for Barca B with little chances of reaching the first team

13 - Inaki Pena

Without a doubt, the Barca B prospect who really got screwed over by the first-team's squad confusion this season.

Inaki Pena is a 22-year-old homegrown goalkeeper who has spent the last 3 seasons now playing a key role with Barca B. Although smaller for a goalkeeper at 1.82m, he is exceptionally agile and his top reflexes allow him to excel in one-on-ones and especially saving penalties, as shown in the play-off semi final shootout last season where he managed to save 4 penalties in spite of Barca B's loss. He is excellent at distribution and great with his feet.

This season will be a frustrating one for Inaki. Arnau Tenas, another young goalkeeper who has come up through Barca's youth ranks, is taking the starting spot for Barca B this season and it is Inaki's 'turn' to ride with the first-team as Tenas has done for the last two years. The initial idea was for Pena to become the backup goalie, with the possible transfer of Neto, therefore a strong offer from Granada for his loan was rejected where he was guaranteed full minutes.

However Neto has not left the club and now that Tenas has returned from international break, Inaki will spend the next season as third goalkeeper for the first-team despite his registration with Barca B. A shame for a talented prospect as he could have gone on loan to Granada for a starting spot, nevertheless the club fully believes in him and he will likely stay at Barca for many years to come. When Ter Stegen leaves/retires Inaki will surely be in the discussion to become the starter. The Barca B player with the most consolidation at Barca, in my opinion.

🟢 - Already de facto promoted and will likely become an official first-team member next season.

14 - Kays-Ruiz Atil

Kays Ruiz-Atil is a former La Masia kid who left the club due to FIFA-applied embargo on our academy. He returned after his contract with PSG expired this year.

He is an 19 year old attacking-minded midfielder who mainly assists the forwards, and is good with a lot of possession. He made 7 cameo appearances for PSG in Ligue 1 last season and was involved with their first-team under Thomas Tuchel before being sent down to U19 for refusing to renew.

In Barca B, it does not seem this is the season Kays will have a prominent role. He played no minutes in the first matchday before picking up an ankle injury which has kept him out for a couple games, though Nico, Gavi, Jandro Orellana and Matheus are all seen above in the pecking order for Sergi Barjuan. At 19 he could have his chance to star in Barca B in a season or two.

🟠 - A 'punt' who could reach the first team under special circumstances.
