Yeah some of the money going around for average players is quite ridiculous. There's so much wastage in football financially.

I don't know why clubs often spend tens of millions on players to at best move sideways. Abraham will likely have a purple patch or two at Villa i.e. a run of 6 games here and there where he plays well. But I expect most of his time to be run of the mill. I am not even saying he will be a disaster - just that he won't move the needle.

However, maybe that's the nature of football? There's only so many, elite consistent, success changing players to go around. There's few and far between. But at least in the past an average or simply 'decent' player was reflected in the wages and transfer fee. Now we are seeing 'okay' players move for 70 million.
