Antoine Griezmann

JUST IN: Barcelona is preparing to file a lawsuit against Atleti for Griezmann. The Catalan side wants an immediate payment of ?40M and believes Antoine is already a permanent Atleti player.
@ellarguero
More: Sources within Barca say the agreement was over a 1 + 1 deal. If Griezmann played 50% of the games in the 1st year, Atleti would be obliged to pay ?40M & get him permanently. If not, the loan would automatically be renewed for a 2nd season.
@SiqueRodriguez
Griezmann played more than 50% last season, hence why Barcelona believe the terms have already been fulfilled and thus they?re owed ?40M. They also now find it irrelevant whether Griezmann starts playing from the 60th minute or another.

WOW
Stunning development

Well there must be some confusion on either side because clearly they wouldn't keep him on the bench knowing they were obliged to buy him anyway.

Could just be Catalan press talk as per usual. They said we would sue Frenkie as well.

Not really a development, club mouth pieces has unanimously said that during the summer. It is clear that this was club stance since the end of last season.

Atletico were the ones who leaked the whole "50% start from the scratch this season" and " we will only play him 30 minutes, so it doesn't count", it wasn't from Barcelona.

Now, the club has a very good legal team, and Laporta & Alemany are both lawyers. So this feels confident.

But, Atletico already lost such battle with Morata, and they are telling their coach to bench Griezmann who actually regained form and their best player.
If they found they are doing this when he is already their player, it is a fail of epic proportions.

It is really incomprehensive for a club like Atletico to be this incompetent.

Will be interesting to see how it folds

Correct me if I am wrong, but this was the Athletic through Ornestien, not Catalan press.
Later it was reported Qu? T'hi Jugues, who aren't attached to the club but are actually more of investigative journalists (they revealed Barca gates), they specifically said the club reviewed four contracts and lawyers advised the club to take legal actions as there is irregularities. Not that the club made a decision.

Barca, and their media ,has tried to bully players for sure. But mostly through leaking wages and saying they are preventing club from getting other players.
They also will claim players took pay cuts to join us etc, but I really don't remember them leaking we are suing Frenkie, at least not until several media said it

The Barcelona version makes more sense logically as a contract.

If it is this, what might have happened is that there is ambiguity in the interpretation of the second year in the contract. And Atleti may try to argue that it is not clear that the 50% was for one year, and according to their interpretation that if the second year is activated and they choose not to buy after the first, that the 50% continues onto the second.

I'd wager that this interpretation was not agreed at the meetings.

This might explain why Barcelona are willing to take legal measures as they feel Atletico are planning to challenge the current contract with the intent of not paying the transfer fee.

Let's see what way this goes. In the end Greaseman probably goes to Atketico because he is a bit of a cunt, and Atletico probably pays less than the 40 coz they are a group of a bit of cunts.

Its also possible atletico are acting like shit heads knowing barca wouldnt go through legal process and compromise and let him to to them for free instead 40m

or maybe they are just right, who knows. We will see.

I wonder what Griezmann thinks of this. That bum only wanted to go back to Atletico just for them to try everything in their power to not buy him :lol:

He's already said what he thinks

He is going to do what he is currently doing cause that's what the club needs.

It nothing is resolved end of season he will find a way to get back to atletico
