Honestly, we need to do clean up our midfield next summer. Gomes is not the only problem at the moment but he has been shit so far. Our midfield is sooooo unbalanced it's embarasing. Only one DM and too many simmilar players. Not to mention some are more wingers than AM players.

But this is only one game. Rafinha is horrible defensively and would not have been any better here. And while you could simply call Denis inconsistent before, he is leaning increasingly towards consistently shit. If Gomes plays like this once in a while, but puts up good performances otherwise, that's okay by me until Iniesta is back. None of the midfield options are good at the moment anyway.

Easily better than Arda, Gomes and Denis. Rafinha's got tenacity and desire to win the ball back. We've scored 4 or 5 goals this season from his interceptions. Positionally it's a different story but still, he is better even in this than Arda, Gomes and Denis.

The the handsome midfieder looked lost again today, zero awareness on defense or offence. He is just not barca material at the moment, maybe it is Lucho's awful tactics. But the guy is the wrong midfielder for this Barca team. Never understood why we wanted Pogba, but now it makes senses we needed someone with more energy.

I would wait with players and see how they perform under coach with clear ideas, look at sociedad today, pretty much average players but they have gameplay and all together they are lookin great

Maybe so, but Rafinha hasn't been tested properly against a pressing opposition. I'm not convinced at all until he does well in such a game, but he's been better right now in midfield than Arda and Denis for sure.

Maybe, but Gomes is not modern MF. Modern MF is Barcelona DNA type of MF. Small, technical, agile with quick feet. One that can think and pass fast under pressure.

You can only have one piece of wood in a MF, and we have 2 (Rakitic and Gomes). Well, with Busi currently maybe even 3 out of 3.

To sum it up Iniesta is injured and Raki and Busi are in worst form of their lives. Apart from Rakitic, Iniesta and Busi we have:

Gomes - slow as fuck, bad defensively, unnable to do pressing, totally not accustomed to our stlye of play
Rafinha - more CAM or RW than midfielder and bad defensively also bad at pressing
Denis - same as Rafinha
Arda - not a midfielder, bad defensively, and past his prime
Roberto - playing as a RB

When you sume it up like this, it looks like someone hit his head on the wall when squad was formed. Too many simmilar players and too few realy god midfield options right now.

Forgive me but i really really can't fault the guy. Talented player in the wrong system. I don't think he's suited to the 3 man midfield and the way we want our other two shuttlers to play around Busquets . He seems to be more of an enganche and perhaps would be better suited at the top of a midfield diamond.

Messi has a bad game every once in a while. Gomes has a good game every once in a while.

I base it solely on Gomes' current run of good games since City and of the possibility that he continues playing well. If you look at the entire time he's been here, then yes there is no consistency.
