I was a bit surprised by this transfer, but I'm really happy with it. Of course, Kompany would have been better but it would cost a fortune to buy him from City. Vermaelen is a good defender and has technique, what is necessary for a Barça player. If only he could stay injury free and I'm sure the Verminator will succeed as a Blaugrana!

An Arsenal buddy of mine said a similar thing, that Vermaelens style is a lot like Puyols, fearless, no nonsense, natural leader, vocal... obviously not as good but if he can get Pique back in line he'd be great.

The money spent on Vermaelen and Mathieu would have been better spent on younger CBs like Rojo or Marquinos. Or even better combine the two fees and buy Hummels.
